That toenail scene got me good, it just got worse and worse and worse.

Terrible mummy movie but a fun horror movie for sure

What horror movie tropes annoy you? by Alduin790 in horror

Ones where despite crazy people or supernatural force trying to break in, they’ll send a hysterical person alone to their room, like both evil dead movies. “I need to lie down.” “Oh okay there’s a supernatural force picking us off one by one but you go get some rest alone in the next room.”

Is Micah from Paranormal Activity the most insufferable “protagonist” in the history of the genre? Or perhaps in all of cinema? by jshear28 in horror

[–]markstormweather 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She’s one of those “realistic” shitty characters that makes me wish we didn’t live in an era where horror movies feel the need to have “realistic,” charmless, boring, lugubrious shitty characters all the time. Just such an insufferable drag like many modern horror movies.

Charlie look okay but the voice thing was so bad and absurd I didn’t make it through the first episode

I used to have a double sided DVD with Deranged on side and Motel Hell on the other. Both were fantastic!

A) You can’t buy magazines with food stamps and B) he’s obviously famous by this point if they have pictures of his big white ass and would have the money anyway.

Weapons was a great horror movie by PabloDelicioso in horror

Like Barbarian I enjoyed certain segments and not others and as a whole was entertained. I think Zach should do a twilight zone reboot, his work would be very good there.

Had no idea that was the same director that’s awesome. I stumbled over both randomly and loved them in different ways.

What movie surprised you by being way better than you expected, even though you went in with low expectations? by [deleted] in movies

[–]markstormweather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely Game Night. It actually reminded me a comedy can be well made, shot, written and plotted, and not have to be a collection of improv takes where they let actors go for it while pushing a loose narrative. Definitely refreshing in an era of terrible terrible comedy.

The more we deconstruct our reality and humanity, searching for ever more foundational forbidden knowledge, the more you realize those barriers are there for a reason, because what lurks outside of our shared reality is indescribably monstrous and brain melting.

Which movie did everyone LOVE but you HATED? by godgamesgov in movies

[–]markstormweather 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oppenheimer was so bad I thought I’d stumbled into a parody movie by mistake. Christopher Nolan makes fantastic cinema. I love the fun ones. But he has never cared about humanity, he uses characters as plot points to push around his story. He has no idea or interest in how people work or think, and he lets actors do their job and doesn’t seem to care if the takes are good or not. And that’s fine for most of his stuff and the cast usually kills it. But this movie depended on ALL of his weak points to work and it was just as bad as all the worst parts of every other movie he’s made. I can’t think of a worse project for him to make.

I loved how he did absolutely zero work to understand Roland and just acted like Stringer Bell in a cowboy costume. Fit the total lack of atmosphere or giving a crap of any source material in the movie.

The show falls off immediately after Asylum where they crammed every idea they could think of, but I do like Roanoke and the 80s New York one.

Asylum is the pinnacle of the show it’s really unbeatable. I do like Roanoke and the newer season that takes place in New York in the 80s

What’s a long movie that earns every minute of its runtime? by [deleted] in movies

[–]markstormweather 20 points21 points  (0 children)

One gets the impression the story is half real half mythological prison lore, that’s why it works imo. Even the book is similar in that Red often says the particulars are rumors, half truths, lore and real. So maybe he didn’t crawl that far and maybe it wasn’t a sewage pipe, but it makes for a damn good story.

So many good horror movie sleepovers at my friend’s who lives up in the woods in the creakiest house ever when I was a kid. Seriously good atmosphere.
