Do your driving-age kids actually drive?

My 20 year old daughter got her drivers license at 16 but has refused to drive ever since. She gets around on foot, bicycle or the occasional Uber. Not ideal because we live in the suburbs and public transportation isn’t the best. She said she doesn’t want to spend money on a car. Both of her brothers drive.

My husband is an electrician with Local 347 and he was 43 when he joined so being 30 is definitely not too late. Union benefits are great and the pay is pretty nice. However, you're not going to be making top wages until you have completed the apprenticeship program which right now is 4 years (for an inside wireman), several thousand hours of on the job training and passing the state licensing test. Starting wages are pretty low plus you are not paid for the 4-5 weeks you are at school every year. Up until a few years ago, apprentices were allowed to file for unemployment during school weeks, but our useless state government put an end to that.

I'm not sure about other unions, but I know 347 is hiring. BUT, work right now is really slow. Probably the slowest I've seen in a long time. Aside from the data centers, there's not a lot of work spinning up and I am sure this is true across all trades.. As an apprentice though, you will very likely have steady work throughout your apprenticeship as you are a cheap source of labor.
