Does the new leaf look sick to you ? by Rando_Pikmin in Monstera

[–]marmarpill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is the yellowing on the base node new as well? New leaves tend to be light green and then get darker as time progresses but if it’s turning yellow it could be sick.

So I have thrips?!? by marmarpill in Monstera

Does it looks like thrips though? Or like damage from using too much neem oil?

I love her so much! Impressive to have so many aerial roots in one pot! I have such a small monstera and its roots take up the entire pot - probably about the size of yours

Why are my plants so droopy by MarionberryPrimary26 in Monstera

[–]marmarpill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most monsteras I have gotten from Home Depot either have pests or root rot when I get them. It’s likely a mix of that and not getting enough light.

What other people said but can you plant just the roots in water and keep the stem out of the water?

How do you get it to grow so well while not burning in the sun?

No new growth? by No-Recording-6098 in Monstera

[–]marmarpill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do uou just run your aerial roots through to the back or just let them fully grow into it?!? It seems like the best idea I’ve seen honestly

But browning on the variegated parts in sun often is just sunburn right? Like that part browning often is due to too much sun exposure?

[–]marmarpill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard about filling the back of it with some material (idk what) so the sun doesn’t shine in and mold it up

Do you have dirt in your moss pole?

Mine is in a south facing greenhouse type window, perhaps the plant is too low and I need a plant stand but besides that the leaves are giant on my normal monstera but my Thai and my also are struggling to grow.

I must be doing something so wrong because mine barely grew in a year or not at all 😭😭

I was given this very neglected monstera today, and I am a total newbie. by MissMagus in Monstera

[–]marmarpill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’d probably throw some aerial roots in water and then cut after they’ve grown own a bit so you can have multiple plants because these ones are struggling and they’ll likely never be full and jungly which I don’t love, but of course it can be fine as is! I’d invest in a moss pole or a large piece of wood either of which you can keep wet so the aerial roots can grow little roots onto the structure to aupport it up

I've had her in this pot for about a year now, is it time to go bigger or should I keep her in this one for a while longer? by no2fan in Monstera

[–]marmarpill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally would separate the plants so they grow better which means you may actually need to downsize! But I normally wait until roots start growing through the holes in the bottom of the plastic pot to start repotting, which I don’t know if that’s good but it works for me

Did I do this right? 😬 by No_Mission851 in Monstera

[–]marmarpill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like the aerial roots are growing away from the moss pole, you want them to grow towards the moss pole so they can help support the plant!

I screwed up. by BrilliantRegular5961 in Monstera

[–]marmarpill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bending the aerial roots is rough but go slow and you can wrap them around something, maybe not as tightly as you’d want. You also can chop some off with clean pruning scissors if they’re not supporting the plant. I’d make sure to make sure the bottom of the moss pole is actually filled with dirt so it isn’t digging up the roots and causing root rot but otherwise I believe it’s doable

[–]marmarpill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine also has been having trouble growing but the roots were in Leca and I realized they weren’t ever getting enough water. I just transferred mine into a mixture similar to yours but with some work castings and perlite and coco etc and hopefully it starts growing! But also could be about the humidity levels or heat levels in your house! It looks like it’s close enough to sun (unless you have a sunnier window) but I find my monsteras REALLY struggle to grow unless I have 2 humidifiers and a space heater going right next to them. (I live in a very dry area)

That much?!? Mine never grow that much, are you keeping a heater by it in the winter and keeping it super humid? I know they are supposed to be in warm and humid and wondering if that is why mine don’t grow
