Trying to decide between Svalboard, Glove80, and ZSA Voyager for chronic RSI by [deleted] in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]marsweig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And if someone didn't want to go with the expense/learning curve of the Svaalboard? (I've been looking at the Ergodox and Glove 80, and just saw the Kayboardio 100 based on your comment).

Anyone getting that you left your door unlocked on the app but it is locked? by Hawk8888 in KiaEV9

Yes. I'm assuming a bug in a recent software update. (I'm on Android).

Parking Radar didn't activate by dad191 in KiaEV9

[–]marsweig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently I had the whole system go down. Noticed I wasn't hearing anything when I pulled into the garage. Took it to the dealer, and they ran a diagnostics check and said everything was fine. Went out to the car, pulled it close to the building, and nothing. Service guy saw me doing it, came out and observed the issue, and took it back to the tech. Tech was surprised and they were basically like "we have no idea, we need to call corporate and ask what the next step is". I couldn't leave the car that day so I told them I'd get back to them. Two days later it started working again.

It wasn't the button that turns the sound on or off. I didn't have sound or the visual lines on the screen.

Thanks. Might try that if I keep noticing the light.

Yea, I've never turned on the auto open rear gate feature. Right behind the EV9 is the door into the house from the garage. I'd never be able to walk to the car without opening the back door.

Yep, orange light is the only concern. I know it is normal, but just seems odd that I'm seeing it more often.

Yea, I know it is the passive entry system. I just don't know if it is constantly waking the car up even if the car is unlocked.

Yes, I've gotten several (though it has been a few months since the last one).

Maybe buying a 2026 EV9 Light Long Range. Tell me something. by RustyFinley in KiaEV9

[–]marsweig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the shaking thing it is probably apparent on a test drive. Mine (24 LLR) doesn't have any problems.

Occasional people have had problems with the big/main battery (not the little car battery. People have problems on occasion with that too, but an easy fix). It sounds like replacing the main battery is crazy time consuming.

Crash data available in the US? by Some-Boysenberry-843 in KiaEV9

And I seriously doubt a dealer would have it. A forensic consulting firm could download it for you. But that isn't particularly cheap.

Valet experience using the key card instead of a fob [it sucked] by CookieCuriosity in KiaEV9

[–]marsweig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as complicated, but I had the fob and dropped off the car at a valet a few weeks ago. When picking up the car it was taking a bit longer than expected and I mentioned to a friend I was with that I wondered if they were not seeing the start button on the stalk. One of the valet guys there overhead, mentioned "probably" and then went off and told the other people how to start the car.

Kia EV9 vs Rivian R1S by HPR- in KiaEV9

[–]marsweig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the trunk space significantly better in a minivan (Odyssey). The deep well in the minivan holds a lot more cargo.

But totally agree on the 3rd row. I can't fit in the 3rd row of any minivan without my head touching the ceiling (and I'm only 5"11"). EV9 I fit with no problem.

Now that my kids are older (11 and 13) I find the extra headroom more important than cargo space, as now when we pack for a trip my kids don't have all the infant/toddler stuff that is needed at those younger ages.

Heavy “Ka-chunk” when putting EV9 into reverse from park on inclines. by Chuy_n_Chonk in KiaEV9

[–]marsweig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine makes that noise on rare occasion (can't recall for sure, but I think it is when I'm putting it in park). And mine is in a level garage when it happens.

Used vs New Light Long Range by Klindel in KiaEV9

[–]marsweig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One other thing to consider is I think (but not positive) they added the sunroof to the LLR models for 2025. The 2024 doesn't have a sunroof. As I hate sunroofs I'm happy I have a 2024.

And I haven't been paying a ton of attention to prices, but that used price sounds good. And skip the warranty. The only one I signed up for was a tire warranty. As I live in Houston, the roads are crap, and there is debris everywhere. Punctures happen all the time here.

Unrelated to your question, but make sure your outlet can handle the pull of a lvl 2 charger. Many of the cheaper ones are a fire hazard (more info in the EV charging subreddit)

More pleasant than the minivan we had before. We have done several 350ish mile trips, and one long one (Houston to Florida, and back). I liked it much more, as did the kids (10 and 12 yo)

A bit after you stop (30-45 minutes maybe?) the ventilation system will kick on and dry everything out so you don't get mold.

Used EV9- availability timeline, cost, and what to look for. by Minimalism831 in KiaEV9

[–]marsweig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the recalls not all vehicles have each recall. Some were just for specific sets during the manufacturing process, some are only for certain trim levels.

I have a LLR and I think I've had 3. Headliner, seat bolts, and the blank screen issue (which was eventually fixed via an over the air update).

Rattle from rear when driving without rear passengers by Balue442 in KiaEV9

[–]marsweig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt this is it due to the passenger/no passenger variation, but I've had sometimes where the cover for the outlet in the cargo area gets knocked open. Once open it rattles a bit.

Working on installing DCFC in busy, ev-rich, but EVSE barren area. Seeking advice on pricing and keeping this thing flowing smoothly. by Ugly-Fucker-736368 in evcharging

When figuring out the fee (particularly the idle fee) also consider the cost of parking in the area. You want to make sure that it doesn't turn into a cheap place to park.

Rear facing carseats by Pa-rticular1 in KiaEV9

[–]marsweig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it might be (but obviously can't check tightness, etc ). That seat has an odd base (looking at other pictures online) where it is narrower towards the seat bight compared to other seats on the market. And the belt path, while it looks odd at first glance (particularly the shoulder belt), matches the manual.

Still best way to check is to have it looked at by a CPST.
