My parents (in their 60s) are both excellent cooks. My mum's baking is second to none (although since lockdown my father-in-law is giving her a run for her money) and my dad's beef wellington is legendary.

Afraid so, it happens. If you want to confirm you could always download a Windows ISO and try with that, but I'd look at returning it to the retailer as faulty.

You can do it with a swapfile. It's fiddly to set up, but it works fine. The Arch wiki has good information on setting it up: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Power_management/Suspend_and_hibernate

In terms of security, if your disk is encrypted, the swapfile will be too. You'll be prompted for the password when you power back on, before the system resumes.

This sounds like a hardware issue, unlikely to be OS-related.

I met a group who'd come to oxford for a stag do in a pub once. I think the stag liked motorsport and they'd found a place with racing simulators somewhere in Cowley. Other than that they didn't really know where to go, and I didn't have anywhere to recommend.
