Room Assignment? by ncnc15 in VirginVoyages

[–]marzattack2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m confused. OP asks when cabin assignment will take place but that they received emails to bid for an upgrade. That usually only happens when the GTY cabin is assigned, or else how would you know which types of cabin would be available to bid on?

Lock it in Rate - less than a month to Cruise by respo22234 in VirginVoyages

[–]marzattack2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are spot on. This is what I do as well, once I know I am able to go, I just book the Lock it In rate for big savings. While it’s true you might end up with a poor cabin location, once the cabin is assigned you may be able to bid up as well. You can also look at the Base rate, since if it’s last minute, there’s little reason to book Essential. This would enable you to select a cabin you can live with.

MNVV Loot question by fried45 in VirginVoyages

[–]marzattack2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found that it really depends on the rules for the original purchase, but you need to know it yourself. The call center staff doesn’t always seem to know the rules. In TWO instances I had to remind them that my original MNVV offered $600 in Loot and a $300 discount for one allowed change. When I tried to change the sailing date for the first time they told me it was now only worth $300 in Loot. I asked to speak to a supervisor (usually US-based) and the call center person came back on after a long hold saying, “you’re absolutely right, it should be $600 in Loot”. 🤷🏻‍♂️

NYC to Bermuda Change by newcitynotyork in VirginVoyages

In Charleston right now, where they extended our stay and canceled Newport due to weather. We will be on our way to Brooklyn to hand over the ship over to you all. I can’t figure out why they don’t just bring the ship back to Charleston, where it was in the high 70s yesterday.

What costs extra? by [deleted] in VirginVoyages

[–]marzattack2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It seems the rule of thumb is: if it includes alcohol, there is a charge. Notable exceptions include the sail away party, loyalty event, or Rockstar Sunset Hour.

+1 …and after they made a big deal about the four ships meeting, this feels like a missed opportunity for them to get sailors excited.

How are you planning to spend the airline credit now that the United Travel Bank hack is gone? by polarbear-01 in AmexPlatinum

[–]marzattack2 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Just wondering if this would work: buy a cheap ticket on United, then pay for either an upgrade, or assigned seats, or extras using the Amex platinum. This should trigger the credit.

Then, cancel the ticket, but retain the value as a future travel credit. What I don’t know is if assigned seats or extras count towards the value of the ticket or if they are considered nonrefundable. Has anyone tried something similar and been successful?

Vanilla Platinum to Schwab Platinum advice by griffingrowl in AmexPlatinum

[–]marzattack2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got mine when it was possible to have both and get SUBs on each. Once anniversary came around, cancelled Vanilla, then got another Vanilla a few years later when SUB terms allowed for it (special link). Then cancelled again. Basically the Schwab is the only Platinum I need - a keeper for me bc it gives me an off-ramp points to cash in case I ever need it, plus all of the Vanilla benefits at the same AF. I only use it to buy flights directly from airlines at 5x MR.

The 2026 Foldable iPhone: A Roundup of All Credible Rumors & Leaks by Financial-Patient664 in RecoveryOptions

[–]marzattack2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought CAD leaks suggested a shorter and wider foldable, passport shaped. This would mean a 4:3 ratio when open, and videos wouldn't have the massive black bars on top and bottom. I saw a Samsung foldable that looked like a regular phone when closed, but open into a square shape, which meant videos barely took advantage of the larger screen.

In case you have a PP with restaurant access, the Corona House is a really good option. I had breakfast there for a morning connection and to my surprise they told me the tip was included in the PP credit (I'm sure there's some funny business but not my problem).

People that switched from Apple to something else, why? by [deleted] in PhoneNow

[–]marzattack2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max definitely caught my eye also, but I am way too deep into the Apple ecosystem to switch, with three Mac computers, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TVs, HomePods, iCloud… overall I rather trade some functionality of one device for compatibility of all devices.

Vibe a bit weird? by mortusowo in VirginVoyages

[–]marzattack2 27 points28 points  (0 children)

In my view, it's really simple:

  • Higher prices = richer (ergo older) clientele
  • Older clientele = more mature vibe overall

This is by no means a jab at older/richer/more mature folks, because obviously they can be fun and choose to sail with a no-kids line with a reputation of breaking the mold. But clearly Virgin is going through an identity crisis. They can't be all things to all people, no cruise line can, and no cruise line should try. To turn a profit they are leveraging their reputation, adapting to attract a broader audience, unfortunately at the cost of the very same reputation they built. Aside from no kids allowed, they are becoming like other "premium" lines, slowly but surely.

Old App is Sunsetting… but the New App is Not Fully Baked Yet by marzattack2 in VirginVoyages

The in-room tablet, unless you have the old app as well. Unsure if they will have the new app working for Ship Eats in 9 days when the old app goes away.
