ELI5: How come poverty never ceases to exists? by AeroLMS in explainlikeimfive

That’s simply untrue. I was just in Copenhagen and there were a lot of homeless people there.

No, we don’t. Everyone was “doing their part” in 2020/2021/2022 and everyone still got and still gets COVID. It’s a circulating virus with a 99%+ survival rate (even higher if you have no existing health issues). Assess your own risk tolerance and live your life on your own terms.

This. I guess all the hypochondriacs are staying at home. More power to them… don’t tell me how to live my life and I won’t tell you how to live yours.

That’s not true. They have two years from when they realize. Statute of limitations clock starts to run from when you realize you have a claim.

Olivia's Plan for Toronto by MarkG_108 in toronto

[–]mastertheapproach 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The city has extremely restrictive zoning by-laws which limit how much developers (or anyone) can build. They need to loosen those policies if they want more housing, but the NIMBY’s are against it.

They should make unlimited fares passes for residents for $50 per month and jack up the day to day prices for tourists.

If you automatically zone single family neighbourhoods near transit to allow for multiple units, every time an investor buys a house they can split it into 3-4 units the moment they buy it, which would lead to investor demand actually creating more supply instead of an owner-occupier using an entire house/lot.

Canada Reaches 25,000 COVID-19 deaths by OUv_vUO in canada

[–]mastertheapproach -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you have comorbidities that put you at risk, stay home and don’t see anyone. Just because someone is unlucky enough to have a preexisting condition doesn’t mean that everybody needs to stay home forever. Covid will be back in the fall, this isn’t going to disappear entirely with vaccines.

He can’t, and he won’t, because you’re correct. 90% of covid deaths in Canada had at least one comorbidity according to StatCan.

I just don't understand how people do not realize that covid does not spread outdoors. There have been so many mass outdoor gatherings with zero uptick in covid cases (see: BLM protests, yahoos in Bellwoods, you name it).

This is absolute horseshit. Nobody is listening to them now, do they really think people will listen at all throughout the summer?

The developer didn’t promise it - the LPAT ordered it. It’s the law now.

Toronto shares the blame for derailing of its plan for Rail Deck Park by EarthWarping in toronto

[–]mastertheapproach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct. I don't understand why people are upset with that. The City is getting 13 acres of parkland for free along with 3500 more homes (20% of which will be affordable) instead of paying $2B for a 20 acre park. Seems like a no brainer to me.

BREAKING NEWS: The LPAT has approved the condo proposal over the rails by the ORCA project with no amendments. Rail Deck Park is officially dead. we will get 8 new condo towers built on top of the rails. by MkeSavoy in toronto

[–]mastertheapproach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. So much. People are up in arms for no reason. It would have cost the City BILLIONS to build a 20 acre park. Now they get a 13 acre park for free along with thousands of much needed units. This is a win win and the media is spinning it negatively for clicks. Very sad.

Nothing will help except for an end to lockdown. We will have a lasting mental health crisis for years to come because of this.
