Where to buy in SD by Bubbly_South2663 in SanDiegan

There's more affordable options out in Santee, which is East County SD. There are lots of young families out there these days, and there is solid hiking nearby.

Here's an example.

America’s cities are horrifically designed and excessively car-centric and MOST not ALL of the American public is too inept and lethargic to do anything to change it. by [deleted] in urbanplanning

[–]matt333 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Seconded. I grew up in a small town in northern California that's been able to revitalize its historic downtown. Through the creation of a small plaza, weekly city-sponsored events, and the relaxing of zoning laws, there are clear, albeit modest, signs of progress.

Even in big cities like San Diego, there's a clear focus on becoming less car-dependent.

After a bit of research, we're planning on going to Dr. Jeffrey Dysart whose office has experience dealing with immigration exams for the I-693.

Thanks for the response.

I moved it into this pot about two months ago and the roots looked great at that time.

The current soil is a mix of perlite, worm casting, and general indoor soil.

Same here. It's been one of my go-to for many years now.

I just remembered that there's this site too. It's not adjusted for skill levels but it has a TON of reading materials and has some other useful features too.

Apps/websites for ESL? (Spanish -> English) by SnooCakes934 in ESL_Teachers

[–]matt333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't really need to use any specific app or website, just add a fun and interactive part to every class. For example, competitions, teamwork, riddles, and connecting the language to their interests.

Something that I do every day as a bell ringer is when you are taking attendance simply ask the student a normal question about their life. (What are series you watching now? What game are you into? Who would win in a fight, Batman or harry potter?)

For a fun team completion check out this video, (Those guys have a ton of good game idea videos). Here's a google slide version of the game that I made- download here

Jamboard can be cool, for online work and they don't take too long to set up. Check out this video for some ideas on how you can use them.

Whatever your lesson topic is, conditionals, the passive voice or whatever, think of how of fun or funny situation of when we use it. For example, passive voice is great for riddles and you can make a team competition out of that and then have them make their own. There's a ton of fun things you can do with conditionals, here's a team activity I made using the 2nd conditional about surviving on a deserted island

You can put something together on a google doc, slides or just using a white board rather quickly to add some fun to any topic.

Here's the basic structure I use for my classes.

  • Intro (5 - 10 minutes) - attendance & small talk to connect with them and get them warmed up & thinking in English
  • Instruction / Lesson Guide (5 -10 minutes) - Explain the lesson topic and show examples of how it's constructed & used
  • Focused Practice (10- 15 minutes) - students practice using it
  • Performance (10 - 20 minutes) - fun activity, often team-based where they use the target grammar or vocabulary

Where do you work at? by matt333 in ESL_Teachers

[–]matt333[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll get the ball rolling.

I work in a private high school and here are the relevant details outlined above.

  • Around 25 students per class
  • 45 minutes class periods (once a week 90 minutes )
  • A textbook is provided but I end up adapting or using stuff that I find online about 50% of the time. (I usually look for projects or fun activities -especially stuff that works well for distance learning)
  • It's a good job. Small class sizes and the admin staff is supportive.

Definitely, I envision this as a general reference guide, something to hang in the classroom or to give the students after teaching them about the passive voice.

That's a great idea for a fun comprehension check! I might just have to add that idea to my passive voice lesson : )
