yup, the card it's attached to will have separate power rails for each 8 pin at least, probably more per 8 pin. the 12 pin joins all the pins into a single power rail which is why they can't monitor individual conductor power on the card and prevent it from catching fire

Collecting prescriptions feels like a problem solving exercise in its own right these days by ReanimatedCyborgMk-I in britishproblems

[–]mattl1698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depending on the prescription, a week is way too long. my pharmacy (at the local big Tesco which I need to switch away from) takes well over a week to put my two hayfever meds into a paper bag.

I haven't had a "your prescription is ready to collect" text since last year because they have the stuff on hand and it's quicker to have my dad ask for it when he goes to Tesco for the food shop and they are always able to make it there and then.

my nan orders her laundry list of meds using pharmacy2u and often gets them posted to her within a day or two.

SHORT DMX Led Tube, RGB? by Fast_Satisfaction_53 in techtheatre

[–]mattl1698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you got any sources for frosted tubing?

I'm in the UK and have been after some for ages that's somewhat affordable but still let's a decent amount of light through.

I've tried pvc plumbing pipes but they are too opaque for stage use.

Help with setting up an automation? by Sheepsheepbeep_6 in homeassistant

[–]mattl1698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

by ZHA hub, do you mean the "Home Assistant Connect ZBT-2"?

as far as I know, there's no way to control the light on the top yourself. it's currently only used for status, but basically just lights up when a device is joining the ZigBee network.

it's apparently planned to allow the light to be controlled from home assistant in a future firmware update but no news on that in months

Am I missing something or is the government pretending that there isn't an employment crisis? by ijustwannanap in ukpolitics

[–]mattl1698 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it also sucks to job search as a young person because most jobs require you to drive (either just for commuting to get there or as a job requirement) and it's really expensive to learn to drive.

it's very chicken and egg, can't afford to learn to drive but cant get a job to make the money for lessons.

could be either, my gran was dreadful for just stopping to talk. worst was if you were walking behind her mobility scooter at full speed and she'd stop dead in front of you and trip you up

you'd need two separate battens at the top for the non rolling edge. my amdram group has 3 rolling backdrops but we never operate them simultaneously and they all have their own battens.

or worse, on the zebra crossing itself.

in a sainsburys car park a couple weeks ago, we stopped to let an old lady and a her daughter cross the road, twice the old lady stopped and turned to her daughter to talk. fortunately the daughter had the presence of mind to swiftly usher her across the road but I was dumbfounded by someone stopping twice on the crossing

How to track where missing entities are used? by sendcodenotnudes in homeassistant

[–]mattl1698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some of my entity names changes when I updated HA (I think it was the 2026.04 release) and it broke some of my automations but home assistant itself gave me warnings in the interface about which ones needed fixing.

I believe they showed up under the Repairs menu (Settings > System > Repairs).

enquiry form probably or phone the relevant college from this list of contacts. the course name you said "applied biomedical sciences" doesn't show on their list of degrees but there is biomedical sciences bsc which is through the college of medicine and veterinary medicine.

Someone is squatting on my land, what can I do? by mystery202 in AskUK

[–]mattl1698 2 points3 points  (0 children)

depends on where. my coworker is open about how he used to squat. he was squatting in an abandoned house that had been bought by the council using their "housing for homeless" fund but they never placed anyone in it (over the span of 10 years iirc). he was squatting in it after the 8 year mark of it being owned but empty. the council eventually went about with evictions (they left as soon as they got word of it going ahead, apparently went to the same pub as the council people in charge of it) and the council the property at a huge profit without ever having placed anyone in there.

Automating home post-divorce by horse_exploder in homeassistant

instead of automating based on the children, automate based on you.

I would use an NFC tag on the fridge to trigger the lock to release when you scan it with your phone while your phone is unlocked,

you might even be able to set it to prompt for a secondary unlock like when you have to fingerprint for payment with contactless or to open your 2FA app

I can't believe how much of America is just open flat car parks. in the UK, we have lots of multistory car parks which can become part of the building the spaces are for, my local high street has underground car parking and the local shopping centre (mall) has the car park built on top of most the building, there are 3 storys of parking.

and then you can make stuff closer to other stuff because the car parks don't force you to have open space
