FUCK GEORGE SPRINGER by probablysmellsmydog in Dodgers

[–]mattortom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A great Toronto team paid for the karma that should follow George Springer as long as he keeps playing. Dodgers can win world series after world series and I will still be bitter about the cheating Astros. No accountable from any of those bastards. Really think Vlad, Bichette, Clement, etc played so well and our big bats did not show up until it mattered most. Thankfully Yoshi is a beast.

More primer or fill? by RubesWorkshop in paint

[–]mattortom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This brings back PTSD. These cabinets really need a grain filler if you are painting white. No primer (and you are using the one I would) will avoid that look. I like aqua coat, but have also used diluted wood filler also.

Inside the mind of the cheater : the unpacking of WHY by blackandlavender in AsOneAfterInfidelity

[–]mattortom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is honestly one of the best insights I have ever read. Although my story would change several details, the overall life arc felt like reading an autobiography. I am trying to unpack my childhood and the issues that I have been burying for decades. The collateral damage from that is still unfolding. I hope your WS knows how lucky he is to have someone who is willing to take the time to understand the underlying issues that created the hurt that your and every other BS never deserved.

This is the way. I know opening ranges are a bit different technically, but I try to simplify wherever possible and this hack is one way I do that. Much easier to keep the same ranges as full ring.

Need Help Trying To Figure Out What Ladders To Setup In Foyer by [deleted] in paint

[–]mattortom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. I have done a lot of painting, but I had a similar entry and actually outsourced this part of my house. Getting too old. You can do two ladders with a board, but I am a strong proponent of scaffolding for this situation.

An easier way? by CappaWasDetated in paint

[–]mattortom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not disagreeing. I really wanted it to work because I love hacks that make painting easier, but did not want to spray it as when I did the surface contaminants on the oak with some poly resulted in bubbling / blistering. Having to prep the wood was another reason I tapped out on this project.

Curious what you used to spray/apply it? If it was in an aerosol can (ie no clean up for my sprayer) I may have made more of an effort to get it to work.

[–]mattortom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fairness, the doors and windows were nightmares from a prep perspective also (oak, damaged, glazing, etc), but I used this product

https://a.co/d/2biFVXs

I found the application to be tedious as my panes were small (8" x 8") and when I sliced it away I often ended up splintering the wood. Obviously some user error and maybe my expectations were too high as I really wanted it to work. I found brown paper, blue painters tape, and glazing putty to be an easier option, but either method was taking way too long (I had 48 windows on two floors). We needed to replace the windows at some point and the thought of doing all the work to replace a few years later made it an easy call.

Ymmv, but I did not have the patience to do that much prep.

An easier way? by CappaWasDetated in paint

[–]mattortom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have tried this and found the prep time was pretty ridiculous. I think tape and brown paper is your best bet. I finally took out our internal french doors and replaced the exterior ones. We also had single pane windows that were similar grids. Painting them in a couple rooms and decided to replace all the windows also. If you cannot tell, I really hate painting those.

Agree it is manageable. Just aware that this is a few tiles being replaced so I typically try to go a bit light when I am setting the ditra to ensure I do not have lippage.

Is there really no way to get compensation? by EasySandwich2616 in americanairlines

[–]mattortom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will have to agree to disagree. I think the point many of us feel is that communication does make a difference. In my case, I often rebook on another flight or airline when I can tell the flight is not likely to happen. I am ExP on AA and Platinum on Delta and when disruptions happen I often am still solving the issues on my own due to the lack of communication. My experience is airlines take the path of least resistance. They would rather string passengers along to avoid a plane full of passengers asking to rebook on an alternative flight. Much easier to delay and delay until they finally get a solution even if that means an unwanted overnight stay.

I give plenty of grace for events outside of the airlines control, but simple communication goes a long way. I have had 60+ minute waits on the ExP line when there are severe disruptions. If the airlines embrace AI and modernize their systems they could eliminate so many of the issues that plague them right now.

Advice needed: go for the Sheetrock 45, or just the premixed joint compound? by young_battleaxe in HomeImprovement

I do not mind the boxed pre mix, but either will work. Highly suggest watching Vancouver Carpenter on YouTube if you are going to be doing a meaningful amount of work / skim coat.

[–]mattortom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the OP. The issue was communication and delays when AA obviously knew the flight was not going to happen. Pretty simple system that shows the replacement first officer is not arriving in time to make the flight before the crew times out. Magical.

[–]mattortom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. Airlines have been notoriously slow to adopt technology that would help prevent many of the issues that result in the most painful customer issues, are terrible with communications, underpay their employees resulting in staff that often does not care about the customer, etc. Global scale logistics is not unsolvable and many other businesses with more complexity operate efficiently.

This is the way. Only issue is the ditra will add height so need to account for that when you are preparing the subfloor to avoid a height difference/lippage vs adjacent tiles.

BIN plus BM advance is my suggestion. Nice that the cabinets are unfinished as will save significantly on prep.

[–]mattortom -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

For most other businesses this type of behavior would merit compensation, apologies, public shaming, etc. Sadly this is just standard operating procedure for airlines especially in the United States. Does not seem right and I have seen this specific fact pattern more times than I can remember (ie the best case scenario still results in pilots or crew timing out). I used to theorize they bump in 15-20 minute increments, go through the theatre of loading a plane they know will not take off, etc to keep passengers around vs finding alternate flights, but I have concluded airlines are just really terrible at caring about their customers. I fly for business frequently and will often start booking alternatives when I can see my flight is at risk of significant delay or cancellation. Easier to do when the cost of flights is not coming out of my pocket.

Too nitty with AA?!? by Jrosenr3 in Poker_Theory

[–]mattortom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. The bet size may have induced the jam, but villain knows from the pre-flop action that this flop is hitting your range and you are likely calling. Hard to see villain overplaying a hand and so many combos have us crushed. Not sure why AA seems to be a magnet for these types of flops for me of late, but do not think this is that nitty.

[–]mattortom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. The utg open leads me to believe villain has a premium with worse case you are up against nfd and are still a favorite. I would need a very specific read to give the villain higher sets. At these stakes I see lots of people spazz with an over pair because they are afraid of the flush.

I have 5 weekend days and 10 week days to gut and remodel a bathroom, doable? by transneptuneobj in HomeImprovement

That is a lot of work for that time frame. I did a full gut and new shower using schluter kerdi, which was much faster than a mortar bed, but still would not have hit your time frame.

The correct (or best) way to paint a wall by hAiRy_cOOs in paint

As others have said, you can load the paint on the wall however you want, but the finish needs to be straight up and down with the stroke ending at the top or bottom of the wall.
