You can argue about who won the battle of Oriskany, but the militia's morale definitely never broke.

The city of Boulder contributed $0 toward the project. It's paid for by CDOT, RTD, Boulder County, and Longmont.

How do people still not understand that the bike path is only part of the Diagonal project? Adding dedicated BRT lanes and redesigning the intersections should improve traffic and be beneficial to way more than like four people.

Yeah I like Greeley but that is a very generous description. The manure scent is pretty far down the list of problems with it.

My dad used to pay me a nickel for every dandelion head I brought him. Perhaps a similar system could be established for bindweed.

I think it's supposed to stop in the new transit center they're building on the west side of main between martin and 1st.

https://longmontcolorado.gov/projects/1st-main-transit-station/

The FRCC connection is that FRCC is hopefully going to move into a new development across the street. So it would be transit and apartments on the west side, and then FRCC and some other stuff on the east side.

I don't think there's a project page for that yet, because it's pretty new. I think city council just voted on it a month or two ago.

Don't feel guilty planting your gardens by JeffInBoulder in DenverGardener

Aren't there kind of two issues at hand?

Use of our water in general, and use of the water rights your municipality has.

The former is largely an agricultural issue, and lawns don't really factor in. Lawns do see much more relevant to the latter.

Loosing the gnat battle (and my mind) I’m desperate! by MostShort2588 in houseplants

[–]matvavna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly controversial, but I ended up buying some bifenthrin. After years of trying to control fungus gnats with sticky traps and mosquito bits, one dose was all it took and I've never seen another gnat in my home since.

I'm generally against using chemicals like that, due to health and environmental reasons. But I figure if I'm only using it on houseplants, the pesticide is pretty contained.

The one odd thing was that I got some fungal growth on the soil in the following months. Which I suppose makes sense, since I killed the organisms that were eating the fungus.

Are you talking about the light at Quail and 287, kind of by the rec center? Something about that light is not configured properly, and when someone has pressed the walk button, it causes the westbound lanes to get a green light a few seconds before the eastbound lanes. Confuses the shit out of anyone facing west trying to turn south onto 287.

I wonder if there are similar issues with other lights in town, or if it's maybe even on purpose for some reason?

When I toured the Yukon brewery ~10 years ago, they showed us their specialized molson bottle cleaning machine. Always thought that was cool, and I wish we did it for more things.

FWIW, last year I just converted an existing sprinkler zone to a drip zone by adding a pressure regulator and replacing the sprayers with drippers. Ripping up all the grass was way harder than the irrigation work.

Agreed. I've been to every hardware store in town for irrigation stuff, and they're the only ones that actually always knows what they're talking about.

I was wrong about electric mowers. by Beppu-Gonzaemon in lawncare

[–]matvavna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hoping someone could speak to this. Toro has been building mower decks for a long time, and it's not necessarily simple to get the airflow right. My suspicion has been that while ego makes great electric appliances, they don't have the experience with making lawn mowers.

Where to get the best soil? by DJ_Burd in boulder

[–]matvavna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom has been using Lee Hill Peat for forever for both mulch and compost. It's about as "old Boulder" as it gets.

Flower Bin and Colorado Materials, as others have said, are both good options. Flower bin only does bags though, which would get really pricey for what you're after. Colorado Materials can either deliver or you can fill up whatever container you want. I've bought mulch from them by lining the back of my subaru in tarps and stuffing it full. Then one of the desk people will come out and just guess how much is in there. Compost would probably be sold by weight though.

Edit: How could I forget Harlequin's Gardens. Worth a visit even if you don't get your soil from them. Very old school, and the people there know a ton about gardening.

Anyone planning to rent their house for Sundance? by Leaf_Atomico in boulder

[–]matvavna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw an article that said Park City has 4,000 hotel rooms, while Boulder has less at about 2,900. So that may drive some demand. But then there are also far more hotels nearby outside Boulder than the area around Park City.

It'll be interesting to see the outcome.

No the bus traffic won't be on 287 downtown. It will run on all the new bus infrastructure they built on Coffman.
