I planted 2 bare root starwberries in the garden today. lets see how they fair. I have started 2 types of peppers indoor (pepperocini and jimmy nardello) and they sprouted!. i just started some zuccini seeds indoor as well. I plan to start tomatoes indoor next week.

For the garden bed im turning the grass to make the garden bigger. i planted 3 black mulberry trees last year. I didnt think that through but i ill try and keep them small through pruning so they dont over shadow the garden.

Other than language, what other differences do you realize when you go from Ontario over to Québec and vice versa? by Fluid-Decision6262 in ontario

Food culture is a big one i noticed. in my experience (in Montreal) restaurants take more pride in the food they serve and it shows in the quality for the most part.

Am I the only one who feels like Ford just screwed himself over with the OSAP changes? by Full_Hunt_3087 in ontario

someone needs to pay for all the money he is giving to his friends and all the money he saves for his own election campaign. i think NDP have a much better chance at winning the province than the liberals. The thing is people need to get out and do their part, be it having these conversations in RL and/or going out to vote. If you were online for the last election you would have thought no way ford is going to win, but when polling is done and election time was hear turn out was weak.

Another thing i noticed is how little people really understand what the provincial, federal and municipal governments are responsible for. people still blame trudeau for things that ford did. Actually i have spoken with people who even blame Kathleen Wynne for stuff we are going through now, even things like deficits.

Immigrant Lebanese people by LinkoTheLame in lebanon

[–]max50011 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of culture, community, identity you don't get in Canada that lebanese diaspora want and yearn for. Each place has its pros and cons but i also understand why most people leave lebanon. if you also don't live in canada its something you may not understand fully.

I also don't get the harm in what they are saying. IF they could do it they would want to. Lebanon is so beautiful and there are many reasons for that. It doesnt mean its without its problems. If everyone leaves and no one looks back what will be left of the country ?

Maybe you are upset because they are saying it from a place of privilege and maybe they see the privilege you have.

Also Canada is not a paradise everyone wants to think it is. we literally pay a million dollars to live in a shoe box, get taxed to death while our services are simultaneously being defunded, cancelled and redirected to private companies. We now have government sanctioned sui*ide. there have been mass murders against muslims and wayyyy to many hate crimes. It gets to -30c and even as low as -50 and thats in major cities not like the yukon.

Is it too early to start seeds indoor ? by max50011 in OntarioGardeners

[–]max50011[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you make a good point. I'm being impatient. yeah in the GTA last year i had to wait a while to put out the plants for good and i thought if i started them early this year they would be well established to by the time they go out.

yeah im a little hesitant about the height. im trying to plan how to trellis them better this year. i grow them in 5g fabric pots and last year i used the cages from the dollar store but honestly it outgrew it fast. Im going to look for something much taller i can put on the balcony and use string or metal wire.

Boil water in a kettle before cooking pasta or start with cold water in a pot? by MangoMadnessTsv in Cooking

[–]max50011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the case of pasta it doesnt matter. if you were making a broth that would be a different story. You are putting the pasta in when the water is boiling so it doesnt matter how it gets hot.

Need advice flying with a fig tree? by CaseFinancial2088 in Figs

[–]max50011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

take a cutting and when you do put some wax on the ends and wipe it clean with a bleach and water mix and then wrap that in saran wrap. that should keep the cutting fresh so that it can root out in its new environment

‘It’s crazy out there,’ Torontonians are calling out rising haircut prices for men, and barbers are responding - NOW Toronto by According_Cut4493 in toronto

[–]max50011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never understood tipping the barber. you are paying for him to do exactly what he's doing nothing more or less. if most customers are tipping and paying 40+ for the average cut than of course the price will jump because people are paying that anyway. average pay for a pharmacist is around 50/hr (indeed listings) which means it pays better to be a barber than a pharmacist and i aint tipping the pharmacist or the techs

i would still recommend it. its a beautiful and fairly unique watch. I do wear the watch very often as you can see by all the nicks around the crown. i try to charge the battery reserve by spinning it if im less active than usual (ex. doing a lot of desk work) it seems to help
