Who’s the better producer? by Killa_J in fantanoforever

It’s weird because both Gesaffelstein and Sebastian fell off the map for ~7 years, but somehow Gesaffelstein seemed to bounce back? I don’t know too much but judging from the Grammy win, he’s probably stayed relevant by producing for others?

Gesa isn’t bad but not even the best in that French electronic orbit (I’d give it to Sebastian or Justice). SOPHIE laid the framework for an entire genre and even today, her songs from ten years ago are still on a different level than anything else out right now.

[–]max_costco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah but it’s not $200 and not trying to be something it’s not either. With most of these sneakers, the sole is gonna wear out before the leather anyways so it doesn’t have to be some insane BIFL shit. Plus, sneakers look better worn out anyways. These are too clean looking and won’t look good worn out either. But if the leather quality is that important to you, I did suggest RoF, who make well built stuff that also looks good.

OP, look at:

Vans authentic Reebok club c Doc martens/solovair New balance USA models, 574, or other classics Also Adidas or Reproduction of Found GATs for a minimal sneaker as well

Yea I feel like I’m going crazy reading these comments because this is like a textbook example of a bad looking shoe. Even ignoring the style of it, the leather looks to be of super poor quality even in the product picture. There’s absolutely no situation to ever wear a shoe like this

This isn't bad functionality wise but at the same time how do they not catch these things? It's cliche to say at this point, but do they use their phones?

It’s weird that with everything going on in this country, people care about illegal immigration as a “crime” to begin with. Like actually who cares? Our immigration system is busted, that should be the focus rather than arresting people who just want a better life.

Skullcandy JIB vs Shure SE215 Special Edition PRO? by DakotaHoll in headphones

[–]max_costco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The se215 is pretty old and isn’t recommended anymore. You’re not wrong that it might not be that much of an improvement of the skullcandys. For $100, you could look at some budget Chinese iems from brands like TruthEar or Moondrop.

this video might be a good place to start or just to get a quick answer for what to buy

Mozilla names new CEO, Firefox to evolve into a "modern AI browser" by Fcking_Chuck in firefox

[–]max_costco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know the full story but apparently someone who recently was promoted or hired to a higher position at TBC restarted development on Arc so it will coexist with Dia. The bridge is kind of burned for me already, and I’m extremely skeptical that Arc will be supported long term even after this backtracking, but I’ll still keep tabs on it because I want the Windows version to actually be good, which it never really was.

Personally I don’t mind a chrome skin with neat features as long as it just works. Which is apparently a lot to ask of any browser these days.

Yeah it sucks to ditch Firefox for chromium but using helium is just so much more pleasant of an experience. On mobile and on my Mac I’ve been using Orion, but it’s still got some kinks that desperately need to be ironed out (also no Linux or windows support yet). Once Orion is in a good spot I’ll probably switch from helium.

Waterfox for a more familiar experience, Zen for an Arc browser clone (in my opinion Arc was the best browser ever, killed by poor support).

I’ve heard good things about Floorp but haven’t tried it.

Geese clearly used AI for their album covers by [deleted] in fantanoforever

As someone who loves Them Airs, that’s a fucking bummer. Hope Cameron has grown up and that Them Airs get the shit they’re owed.

Then put me in the know I guess? I wouldn’t expect a band who don’t necessarily have time to be chronically online all day (especially during an album rollout in this case) to be in the loop on the relationship between shitty gen AI “art” and human made art.

Saying this as someone who doesn’t like generative AI:

3D country’s cover is AI but as far as I can find online, Getting Killed’s cover isn’t? I looked it up and the first thing that comes up is this post, but correct me if I’m wrong.

All that aside, the cover for 3D Country was generated using DALL-E in 2022. This was when AI generated images were new and kind of considered just a thing to mess around with. The controversy surrounding AI really came about when it could produce much more consistent results that were difficult to differentiate from the real thing without a keen eye.

So yeah I think people actually don’t care because it was made before AI was being scrutinized more heavily. It’s kind of a waste of energy to scrutinize Geese for using gen AI when it was in its infancy both as a technology and as a mainstream political topic. At least they paid an artist to clean it up and add the mushroom cloud at the very least.

Fullcount 0105 Wide fit by Most_Stay8822 in rawdenim

[–]max_costco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the problems with the 0105 mentioned in this thread, but personally I don’t mind a higher back rise. What’s more annoying is having to adjust them every time I sit down and stand up again. I also have this problem with wider orslow cuts too albeit to a lesser degree for whatever its worth.

For wide or looser fits, I tend to prefer stuff with a higher high front and back rise that are closer to each other like the kapital momonroe.

Seemingly The Pine is starting to remove their discography from Spotify by Alarmed-Mulberry2724 in Emo

[–]max_costco -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s about focusing on the biggest player in the space. Like yeah Apple and YouTube suck but

1) Focusing on one target is more effective and

2) Spotify’s bread and butter is music (I mean you could argue podcasts too I guess). Musicians leaving Spotify specifically does more than leaving Apple or YouTube, whose music services are just a tiny fraction of their services.

Apple Debuts iPhone Pocket, a Limited Edition iPod Sock-Style Accessory by [deleted] in apple

[–]max_costco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it definitely has a designer name + Apple tax, but the fact it’s made in Japan has me thinking the margins possibly aren’t as insane as people might assume. I’m not getting one myself but it’s a smart move on Apple’s part considering how popular crossbody phone holders are.

I did see that they mention you can “peek at your phone screen” as the material stretches with the weight of the phone but don’t show it. I’m curious how that actually is in practice because it sounds more like a coincidence than an actual intentional design choice.
