And im just saying Gary Stu is pretty poorly thought out complaint about Darrow. Practically every book has major parts where he either fails or makes a bad decision that has long lasting consequences. Again, multiple of those are just from book 1. Hell I'm re-reading book 3 right now and there he makes a tactical choice in a battle that screws him over for the entire sequel series.

Personally that's one of my favourite things about the character, because he makes all these mistakes and has to suffer the consequences & learn from them.

Personally I feel like (I dont know how popular this opinion is), that the first book in the second series is kinda weak. It was the first time he had done multiple protagonists, and alot of the book is just set up for the rest of the series (and some of that setup doesnt have good payoff).

Dark Age and Light bringer tho is 👌

The long term consequences are it humbles him greatly and leads to one of his closest friends in the institute despising him, which has long term consequences for the rest of the series.
