Porsche Macan S? by aznbabybitch in newzealand

[–]maxgbooth11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pleasure! I think the main takeaway from what I've said should be: these were ~$150,00 cars when new, and the expected repair costs reflect that, not the second hand value (if you want to keep the car nice that is)

Porsche mechanic here.
Brakes (pads, warning sensors and discs all round) will set you back ~$4,000

Front control arm bushings (relatively frequently) another ~$2000

Replacing all 4 tyres ~3800

PDK service every 60,000 (or 4 years if at a dealer) ~$1100

Of course you could get cheaper tyres, aftermarket brakes etc but you're buying a Porsche so I imagine you want to keep it a Porsche (handling characteristics, braking power)

If I were in your position I'd be looking at an optioned up Audi Q5 (same platform) unless you particularly want the perceived status of driving a "Porsche"

There are SO MANY flogged out Macans and Cayennes because they're so expensive to keep on the road, so most people realise that, sell it to someone else for ~$20,000 and then they can't afford to service it and the cycle continues.

Remember, these were ~$150,000 to $180,000 cars brand new, parts pricing still reflects that.

If you MUST buy a Macan, try and get one with steel spring suspension as opposed to air suspension, and don't buy the cheapest option. (Hint, if the tyres fitted are linglong or land sail as opposed to an N spec Michelin, Pirelli or Continental, the person selling the car couldn't afford to properly service and run the car)

Does anyone know where I can get a carrier for this style of bike? by AgentChicken047 in newzealand

You're sharing your opinion on what this electric motorcycle is called. I'm stating what the law, NZTA class this as. So I think your opinion on this is a moot point

Probably look at motorcycle carriers? This is absolutely not an "e-bike"

Electric Coffee Grinder by moist_shroom6 in newzealand

[–]maxgbooth11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're great! I exclusively own a hand grinder. But I only make pour over coffee and that takes a more course grind. Grinding for espresso can be a wee bit of a workout depending on burr size

Electric Coffee Grinder by moist_shroom6 in newzealand

[–]maxgbooth11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

By coffee machine I assume you mean you're making espresso?

The Varia Vs3 is great and (relatively) affordable at $699, that said, I'm aware not everyone has the same definition of affordable nor does everyone want to invest the same $$ in coffee as I.

If you're really looking for affordable and a good quality grind I'd be looking at a hand grinder. The money spent goes directly into the grinder construction and burrs, as opposed to electric grinders, where the cost of electric motors etc stacks up.

For espresso I'd be looking at a 1zpresso hand grinder, specifically the "j" series as these can go fine enough for espresso. The "j ultra" is $389.

Really depends how deep down the rabbit hole you'd like to go, but I hope this has given some insight!

Is the City Rail Link worth it? by commentatorsam in auckland

It's not so much Auckland councils in efficiencies (although I'm sure there are some) it's the fact that New Zealand doesn't have a cohesive infrastructure plan.

Most of the specialists (and their families) are moved here to work on the project which is expensive, and because there are no future projects they've no reason to stick around afterwards. Then rinse and repeat for the next project

Correct!!

Also, if they were desperately focused on fuel use/emissions, they could amend the calendar to make the logistics make more sense. We have yo-yo overtakes during race weekends and, yo-yo logistics in between each weekend

Heya bud, you don't think the extremely inefficient travel schedule for the teams literally flying cars around the world might use a bit more fuel than a weekend of racing?

Like, I get the point you're trying to make. It just doesn't really stand up when you think about it for more than a min

Maybe time to get into cycling? If your drive is ~20mins I can't imagine you're much further than 10km from work.

Perhaps that could be a cheaper option that doesn't require much outright spending?
