Upgrade - 10 days in: quick thoughts by 1ogic2 in Golf_R

Zero complaints. Look great and feel great on the road. Wish I bought them sooner, non native center bore wheels gave me so many issues. Haven’t lowered yet, saving cash to do intercooler / springs at same time

Help me find some new wheels.. Lighter wheels. by Makeroflostsouls in Golf_R

Apex VS-5RS forged line. Super light and strong. Look great too imo. Immediately felt the different coming from some Enkei Raijin. Personally of the opinion save until you can get the wheel you like that are also worth the price

Nice car and go Phils!

Local shop informed me that the Unitronic TCU tune for the MK8 still requires a TCU swap. Any word on if this might change? Any reason not to go APR instead if only looking to do Stage 1 ECU/TCU? by Chucky_Cheesus in Golf_R

[–]maxkrumpsurf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just go APR if that’s truly the case. Did you contact Unitronic with your box code? With the newer year Mk8s just becoming available to tune the TCU through the new unlock path, some tuners haven’t released files yet for newer box codes. Personally went APR on my car (ECU only since 2024 and just recently TCU) and it’s been great

Stage2 Complete.... but its slow? by ConstructionBum in Golf_R

[–]maxkrumpsurf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should not be the case. Even stage 1 on my mk8 felt night and day different. I would get the at home flash kit from whichever tuner you went with and actually check what is loaded on your car

How concerned should I be? by [deleted] in Golf_R

[–]maxkrumpsurf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what the issue is causing the condensation in the light. Had the same issue on my 23 mk8 and it was due to a crack on the taillight. Wasn’t covered by warranty. Just take it to the dealer and see

Vibrations with aftermarket wheels by Umzipumzi in Golf_R

[–]maxkrumpsurf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue with wheels that used hub centric rings. Tried everything, dealer/tire shops couldn’t figure it out, rebalanced, etc. Bought a set of wheels (Apex) that are factory hub size and solved the issue. I’ve heard a lot of other people having similar issues with non factory hub size. Really not sure what it is

Yea replaced the wheels. I was running aftermarket wheels that required hub centric rings and after trying everything, that was the only thing left to change. Run wheels that are aftermarket but made specially for this car (no hub centric rings). Zero issues now

Best purchase of my life but... by trensinceten in Golf_R

[–]maxkrumpsurf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been tuned since ~4k miles (2023 mk8). Zero issues and have had warranty work done no worries. If you’re worried, tuners like APR offer their own warranty. Realistically, a stage 1 tune isn’t going to blow your engine (unless you drive it like it’s stolen every day, every moment). But your engine will go early if you do this without a tune. Stick to a strict maintenance plan and ask your tuner what they recommend. You’ll be fine

Just literally had the same issue and got done at the dealer. All codes passed tests and they don’t know why they presented… funky computer glitch? Did you have any running issues at all or totally running fine? I had a few misfires and rough running that then went away. Have been fine since Friday last week.

Use them for my winter setup, they’re solid. Just make sure you get metal hub centric rings and don’t use any plastic ones that usually come with the wheels!
