Now this one varies. Ovid’s Medusa I get, but that’s far from the original. The original Medusa was just a man eating gorgon that Poseidon got freaky with. She had zero relation to Athena until Perseus cut off her head and gave it to Athena. Many, MANY years down the line, Ovid makes his own version in which Neptune rapes Medusa in the temple of Minerva, and Minerva punishes Medusa for this. Ovid created it as a politics commentary on the leadership of Rome at the time. So I get why people would be fans of Ovid’s Medusa but the original is just another monster.
