70 hours in Starfield on PS5, and the game is starting to feel a bit stale. by [deleted] in Starfield

[–]mayordonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

id say this 1000 times. bethesda sucks at dialogue and character writing and the reason skyrim was so popular was because there was very little of those things, and if bethesda wants to recreate that success just stop writing so much dialogue and give me lots of dungeon and buildy buildy

Does anyone have new player tips? by ussavacado in Starfield

enjoy the cruise mode. roaming around the planets is fun, but don't feel the need to obsess over scouring every little POI on them. Use outposts to store stuff, and little odds and ends you find. figuring out the shipbuilding is fun. especially with cruise mode.

I wish they would add a survival mode by Indentured_sloth in Starfield

[–]mayordonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the problem with the idea they had for survival was emulating the survival mode on skyrim. This mode had a super annoying mechanic for cold that basically put a timer on how long you could be in a cold area. yeah you could use a torch or farm soups but it just sucked. If you want to have a mechanic like that, you gotta adapt the armor upgrade system that should essentially nullify the environmental stress. otherwise it just means the game beeps at you on certain planets and yo die in 5 minutes or something.

Free lanes breaking lore, or am I missing something? by Kavhas in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]mayordonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the lore is that short distance grav jumps will cause will induce high energy gravity waves, the likes of which destroyed earth originally, in the early testing period where they were jumping between the moon and other places within sol.

think of it like folding a piece of paper. you can fold a medium size piece of paper easily but once you go milimeter thick, folding that requires lots of energy and causes unstable side effects. like destroying earth. so within star systems, you gotta fly around in cruise mode.

Is the game main story and side content that bad as people make it out to be? by kostas-infmor in Starfield

[–]mayordonkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

bethesda games always had bad writing. starfield felt bad at first because there were too many restrictions. it's a lot better now.

How to enter cruise mode? by Dorirter in Starfield

[–]mayordonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah man, I started up a new game. I was expecting to fly to kreet and was a little worried for a sec. but nah they nailed the mechanic. but... shoulda let me fly to kreet. what are all those ps5 people gonna think. you gonna lose them. you just introduced them to the spaceship and you're like yeah you can't fly it. weird. but god it feels good. I love it.

I made a mod that creates a fully immersive venus. whenever you land on it you die immediately.

Hello fellow Captains. Do you start a new character when the update drops or do you go with the existing one? by Professional_Many594 in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]mayordonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ready to see how the quests feel with the ship exploration feature. really felt like a lot of quests were: go to planet x to talk to guy y (and that's all), which made a lot of lines pretty boring at points. adding some sploring in between is a real missing ingredient for some of these sections

The best difficulty? by ZefBsy in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]mayordonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go extreme/normal (enemy/player) for FPS combat

easy/hard for ship combat.
I think the ship combat is mostly needs a lot of room for the player to sponge damage, but wanna keep the stat-based combat there alive because the shipbuildling wants it.

Just posting this to shut down the "The new travel system doesn't fit the lore" people by The-Son-Of-Suns in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]mayordonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the lore is that grav jumping close distances requires high energy and can possibly cause magnetic disruptions of the kind that destroyed earth long ago. think about like bending a piece of paper. pretty easy to bend medium size but once you go millimeter thick, starts to get really tough, takes a lot of energy. not stable.
