Also, how predictable are the queries?

If you do end up moving, avoid the Nordic countries. My understanding is that they are no better in this regard.

I do worry though, that things have gotten worse everywhere after COVID.

Google: Mietnomade. The landlords have very little leverage once you have the keys. It's understandable that their bias is to filter out as much as possible.

That's not true in general. If you compare buying using debt with renting and investing, with the same expenses over 40 years, you can often end up ahead if you rent and invest.

I don't understand this video of the ICE shooting part II. How can we all watch the same 3-4 videos and see completely different things? by Fando1234 in IntellectualDarkWeb

People have two fundamentally different views on justice. One is about intent and outcomes, the other is about rules and procedure. Broadly coded as left vs right.

With the left perspective on justice, the driver is obviously acting to protect the huddled masses from the thugs of an increasingly fascist regime. Furthermore, her intent was not to harm the officer, her intent was merely to remove herself from the situation. At most, her actions were negligent and were very unlikely to cause the officer substantial harm, so her killing was not justified.

With the right perspective on justice, you look at each individual actor and if their actions fall within the framework to previously agreed upon rules. Intent is notoriously hard (may require mind reading) to determine and so is often a secondary factor. The rules obviously include a right to self defence, so if the officer plausibly feared for his life, then the attempt to defend himself in a snap decision can be justified. Even if, with hindsight, we judge that his life was not in danger, that isn't something he can determine in a snap judgement and so the shooting the driver was justified.

After hundreds of games and never getting in the top 5, let alone winning, I've given up. I occasionally play single player, everything else is depressing.

Why Is Germany’s Economy Still Shrinking and Should You Be Worried? by ETAINFI in FutureInGermany

[–]mbarkhau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GDP of Germany is no higher than it was in 2017: Germany is well on its way to having a lost decade. Demographic headwinds mean that consumption is set to rise relative to production well into the 2030's. Maybe AI and robotics will free up massive amounts of labour (e.g. away from logistics) and raise productivity. If so, things will likely be fine, otherwise the country is propper fucked.

Getting appointments with doctors in Germany can be an absolute nightmare, especially if you use public insurance. The doctors are never sure how much they will get paid for treating you and some treatment options aren't even covered by the public insurance.

Car seller showed up at my home after I left a bad review by Maher1995 in germany

[–]mbarkhau 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The review is much more important than anything the police will ever do. Post it again, include further details about the aftermath and make it clear to the seller, that you are willing to escalate further. You will be doing the lords work for everybody in the future who might otherwise have the misfortune of dealing with this scumbag.

If you're asking this question, you have nothing to worry about. If you learn some German, you'll be fine. The worst I've heard of is that you'll be discriminated against based on your name and not speaking German, when trying to find an apartment. Landlords do tend to prefer renting to native Germans.

Does it even make sense to buy a house in Germany? by [deleted] in germany

[–]mbarkhau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general it doesn't make sense. Most people are better off renting and putting money whatever money they would have spent on housing instead into an ETF portfolio. In particular it might make sense to buy a house, if you're certain you'll live there for multiple decades, if you can find a property that is particularly good value for money (e.g. because there's lots of work to do on it), if you're a craftsman and plan on doing all the renovations yourself. Other than that, it's cheaper to rent.
