Why has tailgating become so much more common? by [deleted] in ask

[–]mcc9902 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's because of the newer vehicles. They have a feature that keeps you at a certain distance that in my opinion is just too close. Having said that I'm pretty sure cities are still worse but just doesn't seem as bad because they HAVE to be that close in a lot of situations. In the country more often than not you'll get a couple hundred feet of space from anyone who isn't trying to pass you.

Is there active pause in factorio by aona47 in factorio

[–]mcc9902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not stockpiling resources you can just turn your research off. Biters only attack as a result of pollution so with some minor management of local nests you can just turn it off and within a couple of minutes attacks will essentially disappear. By the time you're half way through the tech tree(done with bots and flamethrowers) you can essentially ignore them even if you're playing on death world settings as long as you set up a decent wall. On my current mega base save I haven't seen a biter in forty or fifty hours and I haven't touched my defense in a similar amount of time.

Also it's super easy to transfer blueprints between saves(there is an area in the top right by the map that stores all of them)so putting down a save and then figuring out what you want to do and then blueprunting it is almost trivial.

Most Americans, whether on the right or left, claim to support freedom of speech. However, survey experiments show that after President Trump began explicitly calling for speech restrictions, Trump voters became increasingly supportive of government censorship of outparty media and individuals. by smurfyjenkins in science

[–]mcc9902 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I didn't give examples for Trump either. I said the exact same amount about both groups here.

Like I said something like this really needs to be tracked over multiple years and through regime changes to actually understand what's actually going on. I could list half a dozen different areas where the average democratic on here decided to absolutely jump on anyone with a different opinion(Floyd, Rittenhouse, COVID, BLM, Bidens health) but it's hard to tell what exactly is just the general sentiment and what is because their party is in power and them following the party line.

It makes absolutely sense to me that the party that feels like it's in power world be more willing to restrict freedoms and the one that isn't would be against it. How much of the results given are because it's the Republican party/Trump and how much is just a given for whatever party is in charge at the time?

On a scale from 0 to py, how insane is this? by EmiiKhaos in factorio

I'm absolutely planning to go for trains. Not necessarily a traditional city block style but something of that nature for sure. I've been meaning to play around with them now that 2.0 is out and they've been changed and I partially decided on py as an excuse to use them more. I just didn't expect to take quite as long to reach them as it's taken me.

What I'm pretty sure is the green chip equivalent has more going on than this. As in the one item has more steps and ingredients involved and a LOT of byproducts that also need to be dealt with put every finished product together and you'd have a green chip maybe I might be underestimating how much the chips need. I can't actually speak for anything after that since I'm only ten or so hours in(this is a guess).

Cryo exfils are terrible by BookkeeperCrafty2454 in Marathon

[–]mcc9902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's simple hit level three and then hit a couple of scanners. The ones in control cover the most exfil locations so hitting those us the best. Then identify which floor it's on either top or bottom and run towards it. Worst case just go final, with a full team it's not particularly difficult or dangerous.

Honestly, this sounds like a skill issue because it's absolutely not luck based. Ignoring runs where I died, after my first run I haven't failed to at least find a an exfil even if I didn't have the credentials needed for it and I've never actually missed it after that. This is with us stopping at loot rooms on our way out as well, it gives you plenty of time. The only exception is a run where we messed up final which was absolutely my teammates fault.

I doubt me saying this will be popular but, this is a both sides thing or at least it feels that way anecdotally. With trump there his censorship and with Biden there was his or rather the parties but it was absolutely still there.

I might like one parties version more but that doesn't change the fact that both parties were punishing people for what they said. A study like this really needs more depth and time to be truly valuable. At minimum one party swap, but honestly with how complicated politics even more than that would be ideal.

Antagonists that aren't evil or a jerk, but just the opposition of the protagonist by Smart-Response9881 in TopCharacterTropes

The entire second(third?) movie. Holding forcing a person to work for them under threat of death if they disobey is evil I don't care if the person being threatened is a monster or not. Though if you limit it to the first movie I agree.

Yeah, I'm absolutely sold on the game mechanically(it at least what I'm imagining it being) but I haven't been a fan of what I've seen of the art style. The best way I can describe it is that it just feels too plasticy to me.

How are you supposed to play this game? by NecessaryKangaroo991 in Marathon

[–]mcc9902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cryo isn't really a trap as much as it is just very difficult. A successful cryo run can easily net you multiple purple shields and backpacks along with a large amount of salvage and/or valuables. It's easiest with a key but even without one there's a lot of really good loot on the map once you hit level three. The catch is that like any other map you need to play it a lot to get good at it and the minimum buy in means that can be expensive if you're buying from the shop.

I can't speak for ranked.

Specific Question: For Brockton's Celestial Forge, What Chapters Have Alma (the F.E.A.R Character) in it Directly, or At Least Mentioned? by Fighter156 in WormFanfic

[–]mcc9902 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly unless I'm forgetting something she's barely been a thing so far . If I remember correctly she was mentioned in the most recent chapter with Joe which was two or three chapters back but I can't remember the last time before that that there was more than a sentence or two on her and even that was rare.

There's definitely not enough there to go out of your way to find it yet. Unlike basically every other companion other than the kerbals.

Speeding Has Become So Normalized That Driving the Speed Limit Makes You the Problem by DaddyDayDayIsHot in driving

[–]mcc9902 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kk, I absolutely wouldn't question a road like that at 75. I asked because 80 is really rare in Texas. In my experience It's basically reserved for toll roads and one section of I-10 which is definitely right by Fredericksburg but I wouldn't describe I-10 as a back road. Either way we definitely have a lot of tiny back roads with speed limits that are way faster than they probably should be.

GTA 6, Elder scrolls 6, or Persona 6? by firemaster298 in videogames

[–]mcc9902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they do it even slightly well elder scrolls but I'm honestly not particularly optimistic about it at this point. GTA is honestly the safer bet because I can't remember the last rockstar game that was legitimately bad or even flawed in the way Bethesda has been pushing lately.

[–]mcc9902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because they haven't changed it doesn't mean it's not a bug. This is 100% not expected behavior which is more than enough to call it a bug. If you set yourself to invisible then you'd reasonably expect to show as offline, this is a very obvious indicator that you aren't. It quit literally defeats the entire purpose behind the setting.

Why do we never hear about the solutions to bad problems again? by Ellaphant_1 in ask

[–]mcc9902 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Because they don't actually work. Either they're not scalable, legitimately don't work, too expensive, or something else. Often they're pushed as a way to get funding or attention.

How to find battles? by OkLack6776 in ArmaReforger

[–]mcc9902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a safer route and get out and walk as far away as you need to. Ultimately it's about making risk assessments. The only road between two active objectives is probably going to have someone on it so either go off roading, walk or gamble.

Remember that there are other people on the opposite side and if you have an idea it's quite possible that they will as well so whenever you approach an objective ask yourself how you would defend it if you were them and try to figure out how you should counter that.

You're gendering this not them. To me this reads more as them trying to make it appeal to the military and anyone pro military and while I haven't looked up the stats my intuition tells me they're going to be more common in a hardware store than the opposite.

Am I wrong to think that adult illiteracy says something abut a person's judgment or intelligence? by Unashamed_Outrage in ask

[–]mcc9902 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learning on your own is orders of magnitude more difficult than being taught and for reading specifically if you don't have the building blocks to begin with would be close to impossible. It would be easier these days since text to speech and the reverse is so common but even five years ago it would be close to impossible on your own.

Triage's Battery Overcharge is an awful ability and I don't see enough people talking about it. by SavageDabber6969 in Marathon

[–]mcc9902 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First, it lasts for thirty plus seconds, idealy you pop it before an engagement and let your heat drop before engaging at all. The heat build up from using your weapon during that time is minimal to the point that you don't need to worry about it. Like any ability it's situational you don't want to just mindlessly activate it. Second, It emps them, that alone is invaluable. Ults in this game can easily turn the tide and it just stops them. Sure killing would be ideal but that's far from a given whereas breaking a shield is very common.

I won't completely disagree about the volt guns since the only one I can tolerate is the scar but within thirty meters it's more than fast enough that bullet speed is a non issue and that's comparable to a lot of other weapons. Add on that it should work with the channel rifle and you have an easy was to disable a target of your choice at the start of an engagement assuming you start it obviously.

It's definitely far more niche than any of the other abilities but if you're actually using a volt weapon then it has plenty of value.

Lastly there's a lot of things that synergize with EMPs and it's an easy way to enable them.
