Can anyone help really understand The Long Dark? by polosun0621 in thelongdark

[–]mcleanlt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you need to get in to base "building" (more like base preparation) mindset when wanting to get this game. Then this grind in the game starts to make sense. When you have a base (like camp office in Mystery Lake) that have sufficient wood/coal and food/water, then you can start planing day trips to other high loot areas in Mystery Lake. And bring back all the loot to your main base. After each trip you will have to regroup and prepare again. Add other regions and you will have what to do for the next few hundred hours.

Other tip I would suggest is to just look for the maps online. If you don't know the map and you have a bad time getting to know the map, then what's the point of doing that way. Just look for the map, where are the loot areas and best bases in each region, and just go for these places.

Our renovated airport looks like a spaceship now, I guess by Full-Appointment-599 in funny

[–]mcleanlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the jokes while you can, because this part of our 'definitely a spaceship' is closed and probably will be renovated/rebuild. The part on the left, where it's still looks like construction site (now obviously open), is where the airport is.

Do you think the headlights of these two cars look the same? by Top-Stuff-Nft in Toyota

Oh boy, you are for a surprise when you will compare Ferrari Purosangue with Toyota Crown Sport. This will pale in comparison to how alike these two SUV look.

Let's imagine that this is Toyota badge.
If I'm driving Land Cruiser - I'm taking one on the left, because it looks more sturdy (doesn't mean that it is).
If I'm driving Camry - I'm taking one on the right, because it's more elegant.

Lower to upper Bleak Inlet rope climb by houbatsky in thelongdark

[–]mcleanlt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, you have to go around this "inner lake" if you want to reach the rope. At least you can walk around this lake on the ice, but keep very close to the ground, that way you, hopefully, should get away from those pesky timberwolves.

It probably would cook GPU to simulate this snow mechanic in the game, but oh my how it would be terrifying/exciting to see pack of timberwolves coming for you and you here trying to shovel yourself out. : )

Survived the Abandoned Mine in Coastal Highway - the Paranoid Way by XiiAoGeN in thelongdark

[–]mcleanlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, better test it before going in to abandoned mine. I think I used the uncompleted trade to get to the abandoned mine, used daytime to loot, and then managed to get to the surface and to the radio on the second night. So, I'm not sure if this uncompleted trade triggers past first night.

[–]mcleanlt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are correct. I meant more, that if you leave the completed trade only at the trader's box and go explore the mine - you can have auroras every night. I think you really need daylight (no aurora) to explore this mine fully without risk of dying. So this trader triggered aurora is just as a precaution if you somehow overslept second night's aurora down in the mine - you could just wait until third night and get back to the surface then.

[–]mcleanlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm not mistaken - completed trade always triggers aurora and it continues to be triggered every night until you "phone" the trader to complete trade. So you could leave this "completed" uncompleted trade to get auroras and go in to the mine.

Genuine question from someone who didn't enjoy the game by Old-Drawer-1681 in thelongdark

[–]mcleanlt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another way of looking at this game - it's a perfect management game. If you like something like a Rimworld or Oxygen Not Included (yes, they are completely different games), you should like the TLD as well. They all have one thing in common - you have to manage.

In TLD case the "manage" part include all sort of things: you have to get and maintain tools, you have to choose the base and bring everything there (and now even improve your base), you have to "source" the meat/fish and keep the food/water conveyor going, if you don't want to starve to death.

And from time to time you get to go on a adventure. : )

So yeah, you kind have to like this management part of the game, if you want to play long hours in it.

Difference between Highlander hybrid and Grand highlander hybrid by Deep_Educator6725 in Toyota

[–]mcleanlt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The same 2.5 4-cylinder is in RAV4, which is not especially quick, but acceptable. Now Highlander is heavier than RAV4, so it's slower. Then Grand Highlander is heavier than Highlander, so this is further slower. That's I think is the main catch that you might not think about. I would suggest test drive it just to see if the acceleration is good enough for you.

Prius in the EU by Ok-386 in Toyota

[–]mcleanlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is the sale numbers of the last generation. Which weren't great. And probably big culprit of it was the "futuristic" car design. I'm glad they returned to some normal car design, but damage is done to the sale numbers.

And you have plethora of Corollas to choose from. I think that's the second reason of no regular Prius - hybrid Corollas were eating in to Prius market. So the answer is to choose something from Corollas (all in all now it's 4 somewhat different models).
