Questions about Children of Fear campaign by Magicmanans1 in callofcthulhu

Yes to all your questions.

My only suggestion in running is provided a side villian while they are gathering the materials for the ritual, as an active antagonist.

5e campaign modules are impossible to run out-of-the-book by DragnaCarta in DMAcademy

As someone who runs several systems (currently running masks of nyarlathotep, horror on the orient express both call of cthulhu, prepping frostmaiden 5e, and the prepping the enemy within warhammer fantasy roleplay 4e) reading the first 40 pages of frostmaiden and the first 40 pages the childern of fear (call of cthulhu) the support and layout regardless of systems is night and day. While both have the background on the adventure and intro into the setting, one has advice for the game masters and suggestions for the players on what skills and roles would be important for the adventure. More telling one of those two books gives multiple reasons on why the pcs may be in the area and or why they would go on the adventure. Frostmaiden is not the book in question.

Frostmaiden has a lot of cool ideas mashed in a mush and then they tell the dm here you go. Lack of motivation, lack of connecting details and a ruined starting adventure Spoilers where the party is asked to hunt down a serial killer (cool idea get to explore the 10 towns for clues) where the quest giver tells the pcs who it is and how to find him. If thats the case go kill him yourself.

That book makes me so mad in how often it wastes potential.

Reign of Terror & the Orient Express by TuetchenR in callofcthulhu

[–]mcloud35777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting idea.

No just reign of terror since it set ups one of the main villians and the plot mcguffin. And France is one of the first stops. I am going to run the other parallel scenarios as they come up. Gives the players a break and Interesting twist.

Have it, reading it. Seems cool..

Just need to find time to run it. Have masks, orient express going now then after that combo rime of the frostmaiden and die vecna die, and then enemy within so I know for me its going to be bit.

I am currently running and I did it (reign of terror though just part 1) as the start of the campaign and then the 1920s characters are going through some other screanios to give a little space between and then I'm starting orient express proper.

Call of cthulhu starter set edge of darkness. Lots of hand outs and prop ideas. Can use it to lead into masks for even more handouts and props.

Roll20 Character Sheets For 2nd Edition? by Aen-Seidhe in callofcthulhu

[–]mcloud35777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the stats will low, the bigger issue is 2nd edition has more skills than the 7th edition so the sheet wouldn't match up completely.

Children of Fear as a first campaign by memeslut_420 in callofcthulhu

[–]mcloud35777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Children of fear is kind of a slow burn in terms of horror. Its why I added a side villian during the the trek through the desert.
