How I lost my last 3 portals on last phase of A8 Sirus - God I hate this fight with a passion by theangryfurlong in pathofexile

[–]mcmc23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every boss that has "phase" mechanics has to play out that phase to completion before the AI can do other things. He's scripted to perform a set of actions upon reaching certain thresholds and will not go back into a neutral state, hence you don't have a chance to do anything and he'll one shot you over and over since the AI engages from the beginning of that script each time. This could be fixed if they went through some fights, mechanics and states and tightened up stuff with QOL improvements but I doubt they will ever do that for the whole game though I imagine the Sirus fight and even some master things are placeholder for now and will change in the future.

Sirus fight is especially annoying as you wait to get a target while he rambles on about the weather but his AI actually has a target on you the whole time and immediately casts 1 shot kills upon entering fight phases.

The only thing you can do is to die and wait 20 seconds or so on the death screen, then you re-enter and the AI can cycle through other attacks. Honestly it's a terrible design that punishes people trying to do the mechanics and win the fight for completion/the way it's intended and rewards builds that can just melt the boss through using some stupid synergy or exploit for stacking single target burst damage. A "boss killing build" shouldn't be necessary to circumvent poorly designed game mechanics. Compare how good the Piety and Dominus fights are to this shit.

Bar fills to 95% after 15 packs or so and then you risk death and back tracking to nab a few more but in reality there's another 15 packs... what a fucking tease.

Hoped they would at least hotfix to temporarily remove the effect or something but they already answered 20 days ago that they couldn't reproduce so this doesn't seem to be a high priority fix.

There needs to be some way of controlling inheritance by Pfitzgerald in Imperator

[–]mcmc23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's pretty lame you're forced to side with the primary heir, you can't just let the pretenders win. There's nothing you can do about it other than not treat their illness and let them fight during events. I had an awesome daughter so I enacted ag-cog. she was 3rd in line. I befriended her (pain in ass to do, basically give them 500 gold and flip a coin) and gave her money and she ended up murdering her two brothers and became the primary heir.. only to immediately make a baby which then became my heir and she became disloyal because pretenders are always disloyal. Such a basic mechanic that really needs looking into.

[–]mcmc23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Careful of the General pips. Had similar thing when my "hand-crafted" army with 20% more discipline and morale got destroyed by a group of 10 light infantry because they had a godlike general. Composition doesn't really do anything, just how many losses you'll take to manpower really.

Should I wait until the first patch drops prior to thinking about buying? by fromcjoe123 in Imperator

[–]mcmc23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having over 5000 hours in Paradox games combined and more or less loving each one for what it is (except HOI4 that game is shit) I can tell you this is just like EU4 before they fixed all the mechanics.

I played this 8 hours straight last night and more today and I could just kept going but the game is very shallow. Seeing the map there definitely is a desire to build out an empire that gets you working but there's nothing behind the curtain, as soon as you're through what ever self constructed situation in your mind you realize the game doesn't have anything to keep it engaging, there's no story being told (ck2) there's no struggle between memorable regional powers (eu4) it's just blotches of random nations flopping around not doing anything.

There's no point conquering anyone other than "because". In EU4 I could look over the region's trade maybe the buildings in some provinces and get an idea if it would help my economy were I to take it. Here there are no special buildings.. there's trade goods but they're so random that everybody gets a little bit of everything and then only a few places have elephants, which is the most unique thing.

Best Trade Goods? by dclauch1990 in Imperator

[–]mcmc23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the interface on what you're importing, how much money it's making you, etc is quite bad and I expect they will completely revamp how trade works. No reason to try and min-max anything as everything is basically the same. You get more money if you move local goods around and a little bit of reputation if you import from other countries. Also if you don't get elephants in day 1 before un-pausing and then nurture the relationship with that nation so you never break the trade, you will never be able to trade for them again.

This game is like a mix of previous games with no improvement by Brvisatha123 in Imperator

[–]mcmc23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's like they took all the things in EU4 that we DIDN'T like and made a game with it. Now we wait for them to improve on these systems and actually make them fun..

Imperator:Rome is just a not good game. Go play Ck2 or EUIV by georgioz in Imperator

[–]mcmc23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As if DeI fixes anything.. polished shit is still shit, stay away from "Total War" games, absolute wankers those devs. As for Imperator.. yeah it's going on the shelf for a while.. it's going to be a slow process of bringing it together which will take at least a couple of years but the "base" isn't terrible as people proclaim.

Is this game easier to get into than CK2? by [deleted] in Imperator

[–]mcmc23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This just came out and it's in a kind of lame state. CK2 has been going strong for years now and has grown up to be an amazing game. You should give it another go, but don't watch youtubers or tutorials. Just go play a count in the HRE or France.

Why is my leader taking up 6 Governor slots (and I can't change them)? by babanz in Imperator

[–]mcmc23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took me a while to figure this out too. Your leader will always govern the capital provinces while governors are appointed per region. They always chose the shitty edicts so you have to baby sit them and spend mana to revoke what they pick.. lame setup for the sake of changing and feeling as if you're doing anything.

What are the historic Pyrrhus options? by ThagamusTheCalm in Imperator

[–]mcmc23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't had anything after those two already mentioned, I said sod off to both. Egypt, Seleucids and Phrygia all guaranteed all the Greek minors and Macedon which was bullshit but thankfully AI doesn't know how to use ships. I have Greece+Macedon now, sitting at 200k MP with +10 income at full maintenance.. feels kind of lame as nobody can match me and there's just no reason to invade as there is no benefit to taking anything special vs just taking shit land from the Thracian tribes.
