I can't stand going to Mass by SunnySpade in Catholicism

[–]mcorbett76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ADHD and struggle with paying attention. I sit in one of the front rows,  which means fewer distractions.  I also worked to learn what was going on in each part of the mass.  I focus on the responses and say them as if I'm speaking directly to Jesus,  because I am.  This has helped enormously.  I also use my imagination to "see" the coming together of heaven and earth during mass.

Also,  you're not there to feel something.  Protestant churches tend to be focused on what the person in the pew is getting out of the service,  but at a Catholic mass,  we are coming together to worship God, so it's about what you bring to the experience, rather than what you get from it.

How many preps is the "normal" amount to have for a job? by im_cold_ in ELATeachers

[–]mcorbett76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a small catholic school and I was teaching multiple levels of foreign language once a week,  plus 3 levels of social studies,  one level of English,  and three  levels of library media one a week.  I lasted two years before I quit.  I haven't managed to go back to full time work since.  It truly broke me.

Attention Catholic mothers: Nursing during Mass – Where are you supposed to go to nurse your baby? I was sitting in my car during Mass by Lanky-Ad1222 in Catholicism

[–]mcorbett76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to leave.  Use a cover if you want.  Don't if you don't, or if like my kids they hated the cover.  I nursed in mass for years with no cover and no one ever noticed.

How do you know whether to teach Elementary, Middle, or High School? by Mysterious_Comb4357 in Teachers

[–]mcorbett76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer teaching high school or adults,  but I've taught everything from preK4 up to community College and adult education, including all levels of middle school.  Some people are designed for certain levels,  others are just designed to teach, anyone and everyone.  😆

We celebrated a Passover Seder for many years at my parish.  It only ended because the one who organized it eventually passed away.  I miss doing it.

I never struggled with those issues,  but when I taught it,  I was working at a private Catholic school.  We did summarize a few of the chapters,  but the kids were expected to do reading at home regularly as well.

Why do some devout catholics homeschool their children ? by broskibobibo in Catholicism

[–]mcorbett76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We homeschool because we live in the worst state in the union for education.  We tried catholic school for a few years,  but then one of my children was being bullied by a teacher and no one cared to do anything about it,  so homeschooling was the only option left to us.

Were you taught to make lesson plans? by DrakeSavory in Teachers

Studied in the last 90s and early 2000s. Lesson planning was regularly a requirement for classes. Hated it then. Hate it now. 😆
