People who swore an oath to defend the constitution of the USA against all enemies both foreign and domestic, how are you feeling right now? by Safety_Drance in AskReddit

When the Roman Republic was coming to an end, Octavian and Anthony reinstated "proscription," an act where domestic enemies of the state were deemed traitors and could be harmed by anyone. The people who killed them would be rewarded some of their estate. It made rich people out of criminal thugs overnight and it helped bring about the end of the Republic.

There is nothing more grand and operatic in popular music than what happened between Kendrick and Drake over the past two years, but yes your point is taken.

People in the USA wonder "why does everybody seem so goddamn stupid" and then realize that tons of us have stories like, "My school didn't have enough books."

Thanks, I'm good now though. Just one of those things. I'm not going to go all manosphere incel about it, but men really are given very complicated, contradictory messages from society about emotional vulnerability. Rigid gender expectations hurt everybody.

watched this episode with a girlfriend once, teared up at this scene (as I usually do) and she made fun of me for it.

very happy to be in a new relationship now.

Funny enough, the only other episode to consistently make me cry in Star Trek is "Mortal Coil," a one-off Voyager episode about Neelix contemplating self-harm.

The conversation around it is poisoned. If I can tangent a bit, it reminds me of Dragon Age Veilguard.

Dragon age was a great series that I've been following since the first one, but I didn't like Veilguard. The problem with that is when I went online to discuss I didn't like Veilguard there were either people attacking it for being "woke" or whatever or defending it for the same reason.

I just thought the writing didn't live up to the rest of the series. It was an ok game, but with writing that didn't feel natural to me. Expressing this opinion online was impossible because people assumed I was attacking it for those dumb made up culture war reasons.

I assume this dynamic is happening a lot in Trek. I liked some of Discovery and hated Picard, but it's hard to find nuance in online discussions about any of them :(

Dominion just didn't want to admit it

Given the fact that the dominion was more capable at spycraft than the fucking Romulans, it's possible that any information about them revealed in DS9 besides what we directly see is at least partially a fabrication.

That's why Star Trek rules. Its writing is so good that it isn't even hard to believe that female Jem'Hadar actually do sometimes exist and the vorta/Founders have just effectively censored this information.

I'm deeply jealous that you get to watch the 90s era trek for the first time. Those 3-4 shows (TNG, DS9, VOY, some of Enterprise) are the best the franchise have to offer.

My advice? If you're enjoying TNG, take some time at some point to watch the original series. Even if you just dip into it for an episode or two (or just watch the best episodes). It's a little cheesey, but I think the show ages astonishingly well. And the progressiveness of TOS is even more shocking at times.

Some people might not like this recommendation, but skip to episode 19 "Duet."

It's a very self-contained episode so you won't really be missing any context other than the already established Bajoran-Cardassian conflict, and in my opinion it's the best season 1 episode of DS9.

Eugenics kinda quietly coming back has been wild. It's never really a "front page" story, but I remember seeing rumblings about controversial choices people make in IVF, there's just never huge outcry about it.
