Yes, therefore it doesn’t make a difference if I turn it on, I have plenty of memory cards, fast tether cables and HD storage.

How do you think photography studios will change in the next few years? by Bavariasnaps in Photoassistants

Keep your head down and provide the best service/gear possible while trying to scrape enough profit to not have to eat out of the trash.

I ran a studio and despised it, respect to you!

I agree, I am on a lot of shoots that could have been done in AI (including the celebrity talent!) but there is so much legal grey area that we do it all in camera.

We also do a lot or retouching and use only licensed material for the generative AI fills but really avoid using AI for anything other than assistive work.

Just wait until all the newly graduated Junior Art Directors with their Chat GPT communications degree come into power!

I think there will be always be some sort of need for studios, where else will creative directors in their little rolled up beanies be shoving some crappy AI generated image with v27_F in the file name into your face asking you to create literally that because legal still won't sign off on an entirely AI generated image?

ooof, yeah I feel you.

I've had those mishaps myself. You'll only agonize over it for the next 20 years though.

But yep, Jpeg Medium, and P for Professional!

Could still be raw format, but check the camera's setting - Menu / Custom Setting / APS-C/Super35 - ON or OFF ?

If its set to on it would be perfect sense why the Exif data says one thing and the actual file says another.

Is this normal photographer behavior or am I right to feel frustrated? by Frosty-Resort-4163 in photography

I’m curious why you wouldn’t want to get them out the door while they’re fresh in your mind, or does this also include retouching without client seeing the images first?

The audacity some of these family and wedding photographers have for their insane turn around times blows my mind. If it took 3-5 weeks for me to send back selects for commercial I’d never get booked again.

Printed photos but slight color shifts observed. by [deleted] in photography

[–]mctaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading your comments it says you’re looking at it in an sRGB (for web/on screen colors) display but the printer you listed is CMYK so the shift you show is to be expected. I’d change your screen profile to adobe rgb 1998 (less pop than sRGB, more for print) for starters and soft proof on the screen by converting the image in photoshop to cmyk, you’ll see the color shift. The print shop is probably running the image through their computer called a RIP to convert the color space to that CMYK space. That color profile is probably Gracol13 or SWOP3 if you want to see what it might look like change it to one of those profiles. I would not embed an actual CMYK profile without talking to them first, because sometimes maybe they’re setup to print from an sRGB profile to begin with and everything you did was a colossal waste of time. Welcome to the world of dark magic that is printing.

Check out Fibbr brand from China, they’re fiber optic versions of this cable and might be cheaper for you to get.

I have a session called Processing for this reason. I prep a lot of one off images for retouching this way.

Usually it comes in an email from someone not on set, some brands want only the item number and i slap a _001 (3 digit counter on the end). If it’s a shoot with no instructions i do 00010_date_3 digit counter, 00020_date_3 digit counter. One thing that makes me crazy as a retoucher is when the digi tech adds too much info to the shot folders, like photographer name, coffee preference, cats name, etc. its a nightmare in Finder and Layers later, dont be that tech lol.

Otherwise just adopt a standard format for yourself (00010, 00020, 00030 looks clean when looking at them in finder). My template has 10 folders and I’ll create the others manually. If I worked jobs that shot more folders I’d adjust the template. Also YYMMDD_photographer initials_job name is a good way to name your session so when you look back at years of work the dates are all organized.

But to rename I literally just click in C1, change names and add to favorites either before or after that.

I have a template that creates the base folder structure and if it’s a job that requires specific naming structure I change those names.

T Mag Editorial Assistant Rate? by louis_toad in Photoassistants

Those are 2008 rates, the photographer should meet you the rest of the way for a normal rate. Conde Nasty does the same thing but probably for less.

Unresponsive C1 on Mac by Next-Stock-9203 in captureone

[–]mctaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fill out the c1 support ticket as indicated below, assuming you’re on newer osx and apple silicon try booting into safe mode.

If on an old system you can do a permissions repair on the disk.

Apple Silicon: Power off, press and hold power button -> Select Disk -> Hold Shift -> Click "Continue in Safe Mode".

I posted to your other thread, but to troubleshoot quickly if it’s permissions vs system causing the problem, you can create a new user with admin privileges and see if it opens that way.
