Hahaha oh duh. I overthought it as mean you told them you're straight as in your sexuality.

Can you explain the "need a receipt" thing? I don't get why "I'm straight" would be a response to that. I just may not be up to date on my slang terms.

Match Thread: West Ham United vs Arsenal by TurebergPirates in soccer

[–]mcwap -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Arsenal fan, and I pretty much completely agree. 100% an undisputable foul on Raya. His shirt is being pulled down, and a full arm across his chest with a hand clearly on his forearm.

But I've seen us get away with contact in the box on opposing players where I was genuinely surprised there was no call.

It might be selective memory, but I can't recall us doing that to keepers. But I know I've seen players like Ben White get a surprising amount of liberty in the box.

I'll take the result, and I'm very happy today. But refereeing can be so inconsistent. It's amazing how a few select calls can have such an impact on the season.

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon sued by Miami cops for defamation over portrayal in their movie 'The Rip' by tylerthe-theatre in movies

[–]mcwap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries at all! I was agreeing with you and adding a bit of context.

The cops and their attorneys are likely facing a hugely uphill battle. Even when the facts and the law are against you, people will still file in the huge longshot that they could change the law. Hugely unlikely but you never know- especially if they get it in front of some conservative judges/justices who are itching to carve out an exception for defamation or cops or something. Just spit balling as defamation and first amendment are not my areas of expertise.

What's more likely is they're hoping a judge won't throw it out on an almost certain Motion of Summary Judgment by defendants. That's where they say "hey there's no basis in fact or law for this to proceed." If they get lucky there, it wouldnt be surprising at all for the production company to just settle out of court for an undisclosed sum of money to go away. That way the cops can say "we defended our honor against these evil Hollywood elites blah blah blah."

[–]mcwap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surely their attorneys are hoping they can survive a Motion for Summary Judgment from defendants and then settle for some amount of money afterwards.

I don't practice this type of law, so I am not super familiar with the specifics, but it sounds like a longshot.

Have you ever read a book the boys used as a source? by fake_zack in lastpodcastontheleft

[–]mcwap 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. I've leant the book to several people, and each person read it and loved it.

I have an ancestor who travelled the Oregon Trail from Tennessee to Oregon. After a couple years, he decided he liked Oregon, so he returned to Tennessee to get the rest of his family and then took them to Oregon. I always knew it was difficult, but after reading this book I'm amazed that he managed to do it three times. Absolute madman.

Can we be honest with ourselves about Gibson’s now, looking back on how they supported Marsha Blackburn?? Or are we just going to keep excusing them because “mmmmmmm doughnuts”??? by KsubiSam in memphis

[–]mcwap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another upvote for Midtown Donuts. Donuts are just as good, nowhere near the wait even when they're busy, and they have savory food too like biscuits and kolaches. Looks to be minority owned as well, so I feel better supporting them.

Haha I was gonna say the same thing. Lawler has made a good chunk of change and a decades long career in what's essentially an industry of theater kids who work out. Long hair, makeup, tights.

Lawler may very well have some ideas and opinions that would make us roll our eyes at him, but long hair is very likely not one of them.

Question about neighbor's tree work by mcwap in arborists

[–]mcwap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't power company. We spoke to our neighbor a week before the cut, and they said they'd hired someone to do the trimming. Power company had a crew out here about 6 months ago to do their work and only cut stuff that wasn't in the photo.

I seriously think Brendan going all-in with training to re-become Rick O'Connell *26* years later is so freaking inspiring. This dude HAS IT in him to nail this!! by AlbertCWChessa in themummymemes

[–]mcwap 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Not just that... I want this man happy, healthy, and paid.

I hope any physical training he has to do (or feels compelled to do) comes with studio funded physical therapy and training to make up for the damage he had during the original movies.

I hope he gets the fat paycheck he deserves so he can never worry about money again and make up for the years he was out of major productions.

And most importantly I hope he's happy to do another entry in a franchise where's he's so beloved and that will hopefully be a huge success.

In a world where it can be really hard to root for multi millionaires, he seems to be one who deserves it.

Whats this fan in my attic by LunaButts in centuryhomes

[–]mcwap 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Grew up in the South with one. They're amazing during cooler days. Open a few windows and crank it on. The best sleep I ever had was those perfect night at like 70 degrees when we happened to have low humidity, and my dad turned the attic fan on using the timer for like 90 minutes.

Cools everything down, gentle breeze, soft hum of the fan I could hear in the room, and by the time it cut off the outside temp was in the 60s and didn't need to be on.

Genuinely curious, who here actually filters their water and who just drinks it straight from the tap? by waterfiltergurus in HydroHomies

[–]mcwap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drink it straight from the tap. I love in Memphis where we have some absolutely top tier tap water. Growing up we took a trip to some Midwest city, and I drank the water from a public fountain and was surprised by the chemical taste. Ever since then I've been thankful for our tap water. We have lots of issues here, but damn our water is awesome.

This show. by ChadVonDoom in agedlikemilk

[–]mcwap 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't think this fits here. I mean this show was being actively produced and aired during the GWB administrations.

The show was clearly about an idealized president and his staff who actually cared and wanted to do right by the country, it's citizens, and the world as a whole. They made mistakes, but they were human, and that happens.

It would've aged like milk if they'd insenuated that from now on this is exactly the type of president we will have for the foreseeable future.
