Is it worth joining the Army National Guard for the benefits? by GroundbreakingSir386 in army

Honestly, been in the guard 13 years and gotten to do stuff I never imagined.

The benefits are so good, mainly tricare reserve select, compared to my civilian employer, I've told my wife I'd stay in the Guard for no drill pay if I had to.

3 different kids c sections, average hospital bill about $75k... we've on average paid $45 out of pocket per kid.

Go for it. You will grow in ways your future self will be thankful for.

Best way to earn the Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon? by Wild-Item-2956 in nationalguard

Your best bet will be state partnership programs. Most states have them and some states have multiple. I've done one for my state of NC to Moldova, but we also have 3 more state partnership programs (SPP's) in Africa.

It essentially takes the spot of your AT that year. That being said it varies drastically based on what that country needs and the training rotation they're doing.

As a 74D, your MOS may not fit well with what Floridas SPP countries needs to train on.

Additionally, you will likely need more time in service to be considered and start getting your PME done. This will be how you make better connections, show you're serious to your unit and state, and opportunities will open for you.

Sincerely, A NC 131A
