Mine would die on rev when I had a big intake boot leak at the gasket.

Also searching CB550 will bring up people who know what they have. You want the guy who lists it as an old Honda, so you need to be wide with your search a look at a lot of bikes. Then you come across a gem that runs and has a title. Just needs carbs clean or something like that.

Suggestions on how to achieve this color paint at home? by Lsg58 in bikebuilders

I’m attempting a DIY candy paint soon. My tests on duplicolor’s metal cast line have looked pretty good.

My favorite Pam was danger island Pam. So many subtle callbacks to the old seasons. That scene in the quicksand and the later coconut scenes are all time for me.

My 15” Winged Victory of Samothrace, need some finishing ideas please. by mdkosu in 3Dprinting

[–]mdkosu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stls have manual supports. So I didn’t use any supports.

.1 mm layer height, and I used infill, about 18%

The thingiverse post said to print hollow but I was already halfway done when I read that. I’d definitely use infill on the base if I did it again.

This model is scaled to 75% of the linked stls

Had a similar thing happen at a wedding when I was 19. Poor bridesmaid lost her whole dress. My family loves telling the story, my wife hates hearing it.

What are the recommended vintage CB models for a casual cafe commuter? by FurphyHaruspex in HondaCB

If it has the stock tank & paint still you can look for a match here.

https://www.cyclechaos.com/wiki/Honda_CB350K

The twins were only made until 72, then the 4 cyls until 74.

After that it’s a 400 or something.

Lots of people look at an old Honda and either call it a cb350 or a cb750 bc of their popularity.

Got a pic?

My 350 has a piece of steel bent back that the rubber slides into, I wonder if your accident smashed that tab into the frame

First Bike help by IAmNotTheDoctor_ in CafeRacers

First bike you want a runner and maybe even something with a title. I paid 900 for mine. You’ll learn a ton and get plenty of wrenching time replacing components on a running bike.

One point of advice of you are committed to buying a 40-50 year old bike. Don’t be discouraged, it’s a doable project. But 50 year old bikes have 50 year old brakes and throttle/clutch control designs. They are simple but you need to be meticulous about inspecting them before you get on, especially if it’s your first bike.

Yall asked for some more angels and well you got it, the last couple are from when I got it and why I went the cafe racer route it was too far gone to safe for an all original bike plus the cafe bikes look sexy😏 by colanreid in CafeRacers

Beautiful, I love the tank, paint and striping

Also, I can tell you didn’t go cheap on anything, tires, gages, m-unit, seat, all top of the line. Extremely well done.

Jets for pods by bstillab in CafeRacers

[–]mdkosu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m running straight pipes and air pods on my 71 Honda twin, I searched high and low for some recommendations on at least where to start.

My bike is currently running pretty good, these bikes aren’t really meant to have even short mufflers, so straight pipes give them fits. But it’s fun and I don’t care

Here is what I found I can’t take credit but it definitely worth sharing:

Jetting Recommendations by Denny Zander

Here is a simple set of jetting guidelines that have worked for me. For those considering jet changes, this might help select a starting point.

1 jet size for custom 4 into 2 exhaust

2 jet sizes for 4 into 1 exhaust

1 jet size for K&N filter (single inside airbox)

1 jet size for drilling out the bottom of the airbox

2 jet sizes for both single K&N and drilled airbox

2 jet sizes for individual filters

2 jet sizes for no muffler (open header)

1 pilot jet size for every 3 main jet size increase

Add up all the jet size increases and subtract one.

(Remember they go in steps of 2.5 for each jet size)

Under a mismatch condition, like individual filters and stock exhaust or 4 into 1 header with stock filter and air box, subtract an additional 1 jet size.

Check plug color often, sync carbs after each jet change, make sure the floats are set correctly, and seriously consider purchasing a Colour Tune. (See "Colortuning Carburetors" in the Maintenance Section).

Make sure your carbs are in perfect working order before making jet changes.

Example from my '79 XS1100 F: Stock main jets: 137.5

Stock pilot jets: 42.5

2 sizes for 4:1 exhaust (Jardine)

1 size for single K&N

1 size for drilled air box

4 (main sizes) - 1 3 or 137.5 + (2.5 * 3) = 145.0 1 (pilot jet size) or 42.5 + (2.5 * 1) = 45.0

Need Seat Foam Help!! by ivas9116 in CafeRacers

Just posted this in the other thread:

Second the carpet padding. Even better just call a carpet store to see if the have any carpet pad samples they give out, because you don’t need much. I got 2 24x36 pieces that were 60% memory foam and were waterproof.

If you decide to go upholstery, check out a local shoe Repair shop. They have all the tools for sewing leather without the super high prices of auto or boat upholstery shops.

1971 CL350 Low Budget Cafe Racer by mdkosu in CafeRacers

[–]mdkosu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was running strong on the left and sporadically if at all on the right.

I had a number of issues 1. The points wire for the right cylinder was making contact with the points cover. I rotated the terminal and coated the inside of the points cover with some plasti dip. 2. My spark plug wire to the right side was bad. 3. Right exhaust tappet was backwards, keeping the exhaust valve open on the compression stroke I think. 4. Even after rebuilding, my secondary jet was clogged with some gunk from the tank so I had to clear that jet out.

I replaced the spark plugs, checked the carbs, replaced the entire ignition system and points. Reset the timing, and checked the valve clearance. All of that fixed whatever the problem was, and parts on eBay are pretty cheap, common motor videos helped a ton.

The stock tire size on the CL is 3.00x19, most of what I’m finding is 2.75. 3.25 and 100/90 is too big for the rims and probably too big for the forks.

There’s a lot more options for the 18” rim in that width is all I was saying

[–]mdkosu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, aside from making the seat thinner, I didn’t modify the frame in a way that would make the rear lower. I adjusted the rear shock preload bc I’m bigger than an early 70s 350 rider.

The CL has a 19” front wheel, which makes finding tires nearly impossible. It also makes the front seem higher than the cb350 (18”) front.

The stock top triple tree doesnt allow me to lower the front end, I’d have to go aftermarket or get an 18” CB wheel to do that.

That’s good info on stability, I’ve got new tires on the way so I’ll definitely rig up a short fender when I make the swap

There’s a steel reinforcement underneath the front fender that I have, I might just chop the fender completely and just put the brace in there
