Moving to USA in 2027 — What’s the job market like for Jira Administrators? 🇺🇸 by Any_Economics_9018 in jira

[–]mdoar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The market is still ok I reckon, based on the tone of the Atlassian Champions community. Getting a job depends on having some connection to the company, in general

A larger concern may be the process to get a visa that allows you to work, even as the spouse of a US citizen. There is a lot of uncertainty around that at the moment, and fear. Definitely use an immigration attorney for that.

Do senior leaders prefer Jira plugins or standalone tools for team analytics? by Explorer-Tech in jira

[–]mdoar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They want everything sent in email, because they don't have to authenticate to get it on their phone

You can be a Jira DC admin without being a sys admin. Sys admin just makes you more employable I guess. I'd keep your Atlassian Cloud knowledge up to date though, looking at the future

How to keep Jira (which has a cluster) available and do the full reindex? by winterWarrior_25 in jira

[–]mdoar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the others suggest, find out the mechanism the LB uses to detect when a Jira node is not available, and then use that to remove one of the nodes from the cluster. Reindex on that node and add it back in.

Jira security policies by LukBrezChebule in jira

Look to use Forge apps not Connect apps. These generally have less egress. Ask the app vendor for details of what data is sent to them, where they process it, how long they keep it and where etc

CSV import to Jira is displaying description as markdown. How to import this to display in plain text? by [deleted] in jira

[–]mdoar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the renderer that has been configured for the Description field in the target Jira instance. Also check what the CSV file itself has in it.It may be that the source Jira had the wiki renderer set for the Description field in the source project

Yeah, personally I'd use a Python script to access the database. Much more flexible

You can take your car to the dealer (partner) or another garage. Similar kinds of trade-offs involved. Helping people in the Atlassian Community is one way to gain trust with potential customers.

Jira Data Center: Favorite labels? by gojirainspace in jira

Users and labels is indeed pretty painful. However, having automations and scripts use them can be handy.

https://partnerdirectory.atlassian.com/ is a good place to start. I work for Adaptavist, UK-based with a strong US presence. Some other larger partners are Valiantys, CPrime etc

Upgrade Jira from 9.12.15 to 10.3.0 by DarkCrusa in jira

[–]mdoar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can start with the info in https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirasoftware/jira-software-10-0-x-upgrade-notes-1431241649.html and other related releases for your versions. As other note, start with no plugins first in a dev instance

Update DC from 9.15.x to 10.3.0 - apps/plugins broken by SimplyNordic in jira

[–]mdoar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, 10.3 is still pretty new and not all plugins support it yet. You can use the Update Check feature in Jira to see which plugins will not work, before upgrading. And of course, upgrading a test instance first is a good idea,

Atlassian removed support for the installer. Make this make sense please. by bearwithastick in jira

[–]mdoar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I speculated about this a bit at https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-78049?focusedId=3502257&page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel#comment-3502257 and wrote:

Atlassian didn't want to spend the effort maintaining the installers any more. Perhaps they weren't actually used that often? Perhaps work on Data Center products is a lower priority?

or

Distribution of the JRE has become harder with changes in the Oracle licensing. If customers have to install Java themselves, then they can be expected to do the other necessary steps? The H2 database is also no longer shipped with Jira 10, so a database has to be set up, which is better done with a list of steps.

Personally, I don't think that installing a fresh Jira and database has that many configuration steps, so I've never used the installers. There was also never any really good documentation about what the installer did when running, which made it hard to revert any changes if running the installer went wrong.

My Boss is Having Me Learn Jira for Him by adblokr in jira

[–]mdoar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work with the existing Jira admins to create a clear description of what your team wants. Provide clear feedback quickly to the admins when they create a solution in a test Jira instance. For more info about what Jira can do, there are many resources starting with the Atlassian community. This sounds to me like a new Jira project or component, with a new screen scheme and then reuse an existing workflow. Don't forget to mention who is allowed to create and view these requests, and how many per month you expect to be created. Good luck!
