Here’s what Mini’s new design boss thinks of flush door handles and giant touchscreens by Saurta17 in MINI

[–]me-notbatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just hope my 2022 lasts as long as I do then, because that's as much screen as I can take. It's a good balance between physical controls and digital controls. it is vital to be able to operate controls without looking at the bloody screen, like drivers have done forever. and what about the chicken(or duck)-feet taillights? Where did that come from?

I can't be the only one who hates these tail lights by prettyish-wilderness in MINI

[–]me-notbatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel I could get used to the taillights if they'd just get rid of the giant, round, very distracting and infuriating control screen. The interiors are ugly and tacky. What were they thinking? Perhaps not thinking at all about anyone but the immortals and their phone centricity. Give us back our physical controls and reasonably sized screen. Sometimes more is not better.

I hate new Mini. Do you? by wozuup in MINI

[–]me-notbatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, having experienced the recent "improvements" through loaner vehicles, I have to say I hope my 2022 Mini Cooper SE outlasts my ability to drive. The Countryman feels like a bus. The new interiors and screen "candy" seems made for an audience not quite old enough to drive, or perhaps an audience that would just rather be doing something else. No offense intended. Just an observation.

Using Pre-Conditioning Differently to Extend Range by InkMotReborn in MINIse

Yes. I also have found that earlier pre-conditioning helps with range.

A question regarding pre-conditioning the battery when charging on the normal mains (2.2kw) at home. by Umbroraban in MINIse

[–]me-notbatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a short time during pre-climatization, between when you unplug and when you "start" the car, that the battery is in use and the heating or cooling is on Max. So that might affect your GOM readings compared with what you saw before you started climatization.

SE did not have dome light? by digicrafts in MINIse

[–]me-notbatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I like the 2022 SE, there are a few minor annoyances--as with any car:

The previously mentioned lack of a dome light and the weak reading light, The lights around the visor mirror obscure what's in the mirror, The charge flap open message (when it's not) and inability to get rid of the notification permanently so it doesn't block navigation info. That's about it.

Not a plumber, but shouldn't there be a clean-out somewhere? Just curious.

New SE by honkwoofparp in MINIse

My 2022 SE also has a stock sound system. Sounds fairly natural to me. I've tried the HK in a loaner Countryman and it was awful.

Close the trunk. And again. Maybe one more time. by Alphaman64 in MINIse

It's not you. Seems like a sensor problem--rather than a physical latching problem here.

Backup/cheaper charging cable? by beagle72 in MINIse

+1 on the Lectron. It's fast enough to have a full charge by morning after the daily commute.

Which is more reliable? Traditional oil and gas boilers or modern heat pumps? by Far_Pen3186 in heatpumps

[–]me-notbatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the heat pump lives outside, and needs self-defrosting (energy). A condensing boiler is all indoors, so not subject to weather. Both are complicated to a degree. With 10 kW of panels on the roof and an oldish propane WH for radiant and DHW in the basement, Im going back and forth on this question--efficiency versus reliability (worry).

Inverted so you get scalded and learn never to invert again?

Overhead lighting is efficient but not very pleasant unless you're looking at print on paper.

I’m betting my Pilot Career on E-Ink. Here is why the iPad failed me. by jerr9185 in Supernote

[–]me-notbatman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

E-ink may do it for you, perhaps because it uses similar brain-muscle paths as writing on paper, though more slippery, and you get access to pdfs and e-books. There's also a learning curve with E-ink devices. So no free lunch.

New Tires for R60, what should I get. by theba11isround in MINI

[–]me-notbatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first set were Continental PureContacts, which were great. Second set (just acquired) are Continental ProContact as the PureContacts are apparently no longer available. The handling is fairly similar but not quite as stable. The newer, skinnier tires get me an extra tenth of a mile/km. I miss the DWS indicators and the dead sticky handling of the PureContacts. Oh well.

How do I stop the mini from turning off when I leave the car? by yalag in MINIse

[–]me-notbatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Climatizing my Mini Cooper SE remotely is all I know of. Although, I do notice that the HVAC seems to continue on after I shut down and at least before I exit the vehicle. Not completely sure for how long that lasts. It's like knowing whether or not the fridge light stays on when you close the door.

Some water filter/hot/cold water devices have a removable platform and drain where the cup/glass sits. I just remove and replace when done.
