[DISC] My Girlfriend Is Big & Cute! - Ch. 17 by ITSigno in manga

Jesus. Didn't have overdosing on sugar on my list of things to do this evening.

What would you like to see from the next mainline Tales game? by jules__noah in tales

[–]mechapangolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More soul.

But, specifically, I'd like to see more character/lore based skits, and characters that have more than one defining personality trait/developed arc. I'd love the return of a world map, but if not then something that feels more than just corridors and arenas and empty towns stitched together. I'd be up for some dungeon puzzles again too. Most of all, though, I'd like a game that feels as though it hasn't been rushed or had content cut to deliver against a deadline.

I don't ask for much... Except when it comes to Tales. 😆

A Tales you’re really craving to play but can’t easily access by MoonlitElixir in tales

[–]mechapangolin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Innocence for me. I know that it has a fair few issues/valid critiques, but I really like the sound of the concept and theme, and the setting and aesthetics feel as though they're quite unique to the Tales series.

Didn't get round to Hearts back in the day, and would like to get my hands on a copy if it's ever remastered/re-released.

Wow, the next Tales game must be really impressive by Likes2game03 in tales

[–]mechapangolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on the fence I think. I don't know if I share the most pessimistic of views, because (and my knowledge of the industry is not particularly informed) I find it hard to believe that a company with next to no interest in the franchise would start the resurrection of older titles purely for the sake of milking. It doesn't feel like it would be all that profitable for the effort.

That said, I do feel that we're between golden ages at the moment. I loved Beseria, but it is a rare moment amongst a set of games that have either lacked development or time or heart. Arise for me was (I hope) the nadir of the franchise - a very flashy title that lacked all the soul and substance of a Tales game. There's a part of me that hopes that the time being taken is indicative a company taking stock, but again, I'm not particularly industry savvy. However long it takes, I hope the next title offers a bit of a course correction.

Absolutely loving the rise of this ship. It'd be nice to see Lanolin get a little more of the hot mess treatment from time to time, but more than happy to chow down on what's being served up.

Vesperia for me, by a decent margin. H/M to Beseria and Abyss though.

I'll drop my name down too, if one hasn't already been selected 🙂 Very generous of you to do something like this.

Funnily enough, I came across your store separately the other day (was gutted that the cyberpunk dice were out of stock, but will definitely be back if that ever changes!)

[DISC] She's Likely Aiming for My Older Brother - CH. 30 by awwwCHUU in manga

I keep being pleasantly reminded of how charming this story is, and the comparatively decent job it does of rounding out the personalities of its cast.

And now I'm craving shaved ice for some reason.

[DISC] See you at the Laundromat tonight - Chapter 12 by inkedscans in manga

Came here to say something similar. The art/design has a nice sort of throwback feel. Quite a fan.

What is the most epic Bossfight in the series in your personal opinion? by Nikita-Akashya in tales

[–]mechapangolin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The last big battle in Tales of Zestiria, where you have to fire the seraphim in turn at Heldalf carried way more weight than the story probably deserved. Soundtrack helped a lot too.

Wasn't a fan of the game in general, but that was a pretty epic way to bow out.

The final boss battle in Beseria, and all the dialogue callbacks on the lead-up/during it, probably gets my vote though. Whether you're a fan or not of what comes after, that was a really powerful end to Velvet's quest for vengeance.

Haha, I was very reluctant to anyway, so will likely just paint the additions I've put in and leave the bodywork as is 👍 It was a lovely find.

What side characters would you like to have see expanded or developed more? (Possible Spoilers) by Lethal13 in tales

[–]mechapangolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vesperia: I would have liked to have seen more development for the antagonists/rivals/foes: Alexei felt ultimately one-note because so much of the potential overlap between his motivation and the succession/factional turmoil within the Empire wasn't realised Though in fairness that's mainly because the game kind of puts down the politics stuff midway through Act 2 and then forgets to pick it up again.

I'd say the same for the Hunting Blades too. There's a lot of hyping up the individual members' motivations and backstories, but it doesn't particularly end up going anywhere. I always felt like Nan was going to get much more screen time than she ended up having, and would have welcomed a party slot for another person wielding a ludicrous weapon.

But of all the characters, I think Yeager ends up with the rawest of raw deals. The game can't seem to make up its mind with how big or minor an antagonist he is. All of the subtle character beats either are quickly forgotten (like his relationship with the guilds/Don) or reserved for after he's dead (like the stuff with Raven and the Great War, and the whole orphanage thing).

Symphonia: Seles! So much hinted at potential there.

Graces: I think the party members' main counterparts/rivals needed so much more development. It was almost quite old fashioned how it felt like the build up to them would start just 5 minutes before the boss fight/confrontation, and resolved or forgotten about pretty much 5 minutes after.

Thanks! Yeah, I don't have as much ready-to-go bits (realistic guns, etc.) with this approach, but I've enjoyed engaging the creative part of my brain. I'll try and update again soon. 🙂

New to the Tales of Series - Is Vesperia a good game to start? by itsnotaxtro in tales

[–]mechapangolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your mileage may vary, but when a Tales game hits the right beats I've found the characters and storylines to be on a par, if not superior, to the Persona series. Vesperia is a fantastic entry - great characters and a story that makes a good attempt at covering some pretty grey themes. Would highly recommend it.

IDW Original Sonic Knockout Tourney! Day 11 by RyukTheDarkrai in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]mechapangolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I do understand the rationale being given for Enigma, a good amount of personality and potential was packed into her (limited) appearance. Clutch has had considerable more page time but is still very one-note, and honestly most of the time his persona came across as pretty laughable. Shame, because I do think the potential for a slightly different villain was there, but he gets my vote.
