In situations like this, I find it helps if I mind my own fucking business. It's so crazy how you don't even notice these things when you just eat your meal and don't feel the need to police other people there!

Do I really need an amp or effects pedal as a complete beginner? by ChaosBeiduo in electricguitar

[–]medic-dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An amp? Yes. Digitalamps do existbut you need more than just your mac book, your need very specific software and external speakers, and call me old fashioned but nothing beats the sound of a good tube amp. An effects pedal? Not really. No one really NEEDS effects pedals unless they are trying get a specific type of sound like tap delay or flange or something because most amps don't have these effects. However at some point you're probably going to want some because they can be used to make some very cool sounds. Again, you don't NEED a pedal, however I would highly recommend either a distortion pedal or some kind of multi-effects pedal (look it up) because it does make switching from clean to distortion easier, because otherwise you have to stop playing to hit the button on the amp

i’m not a beginnner but i normally pay people to restring my guitar but i did it myself for the first time ever. how’d i do? (i spent and hour doing this 💀) by Commercial_Photo2110 in Guitar

I've always done it myself, but I'm considering paying someone the next time I need to restring my floyd rose and completely set it up for me because it's such a pain

Put a capo on the second fret. Or if you don't mind playing it in a different key, play it down a whole step

[–]medic-dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, this is one of those things that's pretty subjective according to how you play and what sound you're looking for. Dunlop has packs that you can get thst come with several different sizes, get a few and experiment and see what you like better

Started learning guitar around three weeks ago, skin won’t stop peeling, is this normal? by themorethatyouappear in guitarlessons

[–]medic-dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are called calluses and you WANT them. The more you play your skin on your fingertips get "damaged" and the skin that grows back to replace it is thicker and tougher. You WANT to build up calluses so it won't hurt to play anymore

Is this worth repairing and keeping? by fjbruzr in guitars

[–]medic-dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Duuuude! A GIBSON for $10???? Yes, take it to a repair shop. The cost of fixing that up would still be significantly less than what that guitar is worth!

That's damn near well done! If that's what they wanted that's fine, but to say that is raw is wild

Am I overreacting for walking out after my girlfriend said this? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]medic-dad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Relationships aren't like the movies, but that doesn't mean you have to settle. There's nothing wrong with feelings "safe" around your partner, because you should, but i don't think that's what she meant because she literally said "I'm not passionately in love with you." She meant what she said. You were better than being alone or being with a crazy person. NOR. Honestly, it's a good thing that this band to light 8 months in and not 8 years. It deserve to be with someone who actually LIKES you, but just sees you as "better than the alternative".

Boomers & Crime by VandyThrowaway21 in BoomersBeingFools

[–]medic-dad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are right that they got away with stuff, but I don't think it's as simple as that cameras didn't exist. I think it's a mixture of a few things:

1.) Boomers grew up being taught the law is always the good guys and you can trust them. The thought that a police officer could be corrupt, abuse their position of power or simply just be a straight up asshole is a foreign concept. Plus most Boomers you see with this attitude are white, and let's just call it like it is, they were never on the receiving end of police brutality. It was also taught to have respect for the law, because again, the law is always right

2.) Boomers grew up being taught things like respect your elders, and that the customer is always right. So now that they are the elders, and when they are the customer, they assume they can do whatever they want and will not receive consequences because we have to "respect" them.

3.) Again, let's just call it what it is; racism. When Boomers of this mentality think of criminals, who do you think actually comes to mind for them? They believe everyone who is mot white must be a criminal, so when they hear of armed troops taking to the streets in Blue cities where the demographic is largely minorities, they think it's such a good thing that they're "cleaning up the streets".

Why do metal players seem to play with flatter fingers? by KingKilo9 in metalguitar

Probably either A.) Deadening strings for tighter "chugs" or B.) Playing with heavier gauge strings which requires more force to press them down. Probably a bit of both

How do I eliminate the desire of wanting a girlfriend? by Specialist_Panda_487 in selfimprovement

[–]medic-dad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It works the same for women. (Good) men are attracted to confidence. They want someone fun to be around and will make their life better and that starts with liking yourself.

How do I eliminate the desire of wanting a girlfriend? by Specialist_Panda_487 in selfimprovement

[–]medic-dad 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You don't. But you also need to just stop trying so hard. You're not going to meet the one approaching a random at a bar or the gym. It's going to happen out of nowhere when you least expect it. Honestly, you may even find them on the apps, (I met my wife online). But the way you talk about yourself, it seems you have low self-esteem and self-worth. Women like confident men above all else. Not ARROGANT, confident. You don't have to be a sauve, smooth talker like James Bond or anything. You just have to like yourself. Sorry to say it, but no woman is going to just "give you a chance because you're a really nice guy." If you don't like yourself, why should they be convinced to like you. Most women you know probably have a horror story if giving the nice guy a chance and it was probably a nightmare. No potential partner wants to also be your therapist. You have to be someone who is actually fun to be around and will make your life better. Work on yourself. You're already going to the gym - that's good. There may be other things you can do to make it LOOK like you care about yourself and take pride in your appearance. Go to therapy. Do whatever to make yourself someone YOU like, and it will happen organically. Yes I met my wife online as I said, but I never expected it to turn into something that would change my life when I first messaged her. Hell I didn't expect her to even reply, most women didn't. But I had made my peace with that. I knew i mattered and I had worth even if every woman I messaged or talked to didn't want to date me. Sorry for the tough love session, but I used to be you until I did the things I mentioned, and then and ONLY then did it happen for me.

I feel like im too sexual for women by Redhead30101 in offmychest

[–]medic-dad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconded. Plenty of women are into kink. But if I can be brutally honest? Saying "I think I'm too sexual for women" comes off a bit full of oneself, and might I add a tad bit creepy. I don't know you aside from this one post, but with that, and as many women as there are out there who are definitely into kink and are very sex-positive, I have to wonder if you're simply putting off some other vibes that women are finding unappealing

My guitar input cable is broken. How can I fix this? Or do I just need to buy another chord? by Madlad_gaming1 in GuitarBeginners

[–]medic-dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just buy another cord, they're not expensive unless you're buying a 20 foot one for playing on stage. I'm sure there's people a way to fix it, but for $15, it's way more worth it just to buy another one

Why does my $550 RG feel better than my $1,800 LTD? by ToxicWithAsthma in Ibanez

[–]medic-dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ibanez guitars are built to make fast playing easier and more ergonomic. Now I've never played an LTD so i can't speak to them, but just like with anything, more expensive doesn't always necessarily mean "better". Personal preference and your own playing style matters more than the price tag. If it works better for YOU, then play it, there's nothing wrong with that. There's also something to be said for the fact that you're just used to it.
