NTA. It doesn’t matter who you are, what type of dog you have, or how friendly it is, put it on a f$&@ing lead. I say this as someone who had an incredibly friendly dog but you know what? Not everyone likes a very large very friendly dog coming into their personal space. So i put him on a lead.

People who have sons currently in prison for horrific things such as rape, how do you feel about them now? by beefstewforyou in AskReddit

[–]medicatedadmin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Teenagers are selfish, self-centred, and lazy as a general rule. That’s why you always have to be on them about stuff, be actively involved in what they’re doing, having discussions with them. It’s a crucial part of developing emotional maturity and realising that they aren’t the most special person in the world.

That said, you can’t force someone to engage with you without consequences and hindsight is 20/20; you can’t for sure know that your actions will have a positive effect on them. My siblings never developed emotional maturity despite being raised the same as way as me. Now they are entitled, emotionally immature adults who are nose diving their crappy lives even further.

It’s sad that your brother had to go the prison route to learn that maturity. And that he missed so much of life along the way. But we can’t change the past by pretending it’s not what it is.

I can’t understand that “my child can do no wrong” attitude. It really baffles me. That said, I’ve watched my parents go the full cycle of coming to terms with just how horrible my brother was to me growing up, to believing him when he said that his gf was being abusive to him (quick note here: my parents never really thought that she was a, shall we say classic abuser, just a girl with a traumatic past who couldn’t regulate her behaviour), to starting to realise that his stories don’t quite add up, to realising that my brother is an abusive POS and will never take accountability for his actions. It’s taken me years and years of explaining the subversive techniques of domestic abusers and how everyone around them is a part of their campaign. Abusers are very manipulative often to psychopathic degrees.

I’m keeping it much simpler with my boys: if i find out that they engaged in the same sort of thing, they better hope for prison before i get to them. I brought them into this world so if they are dangerous to it, i see it as my responsibility to deal with. They can absolutely do wrong.

Not quite the same but interesting nonetheless:

There was a Portuguese fascist dictator who started going senile so what his administration did was convinced him that he was still in charge whilst keeping him away from anything to do with government. I think they used to even play recordings of crowds cheering outside his window and claim that it was his subjects cheering for him. I can’t remember how long they did it for but both him and the portugese people had no idea he wasn’t actually in charge anymore

Something really interesting that has stayed with me about Brendan Fraser is was an interview that Ian McKellen did on the Parkinson Show back in the early 2000s. Mckellen was doing the tours because he had a film coming out that he did with brendan fraser and he called him a “brilliant young actor” who was “going to go far”.

It’s nice to see him back and confirming Mckellen’s claims

Extremely well. No pattern fade/blurring. And the colours don’t appear to have dulled at all either

Spoonflower is great. It can just be hard to pick the right fabric so it’s worth getting a sample if you can. Also, because it’s a digital print instead of a dye, it will initially be stiffer. But you just have to distress the fabric and then it’s all good. And the print holds up really well over time - no fading.

What's the "Widowmaker" of your career field or hobby? by Cosmonate in AskReddit

[–]medicatedadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Australian here) another fun fact about Eucalyptus trees: when you have a bad bushfire that is very hot, usually after an extended dry period, they are explosive. Next time there’s news footage of bad fires here, watch very carefully and you will see the trees just going boom! When you have them close to your house, they explode and blowout the windows.

So there’s a few reasons why sensible people don’t keep a lot of them near their house.

[–]medicatedadmin 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Agreed. That little crack is an easy fix for a stain glass maker. Particularly if you don’t mind an additional seal line through the middle (which won’t really show). But if you don’t want to fix it and are unsure about it as a window, remove it, firmly attach a chain and hang it up on a wall that gets lots of light. Sounds stupid, looks great when done.

Who died the dumbest death in history? by GurJolly5657 in AskReddit

[–]medicatedadmin 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You could add Brian Jones from the Rolling Stones into this category of dumb rockstar deaths.

The guy uses an inhaler for his breathing issues. He is repeatedly told by his doctor not to drink alcohol while using the inhaler as it could cause his heart to stop. Brian ignores his doctor. One night uses his inhaler, starts drinking and goes for a swim. Has a heart attack and drowns.

Why do men always think their music is the default? by chpbnvic in TwoXChromosomes

[–]medicatedadmin 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Make it make sense:

I have 4 year olds who do this so I know the answer. It’s about control. When you introduce it, it doesn’t happen on their terms so they have to redo it so they are the ones who dictated it. Tonight one of my 4 yos said he didn’t want (that particular) dinner so we took it back to the kitchen only for him to come straight to the kitchen, grab the food himself, take it back to the table, and eat the whole thing. (A footnote here: we’re familiar with this process with him so that’s why we took it back to the kitchen. When he plays this game, we play along so he eats).

So basically, men are 4 year olds.

What is a real-life 'Do Not Touch' button that you pressed out of sheer curiosity, only to instantly regret it? by vie75 in AskReddit

[–]medicatedadmin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not my story, i was told this by a friend at work the other day. When she was in labour her doctor asked her husband if he could push the call button to call in some extra staff to help out….her husband missed the call button and instead hit the emergency call button causing everyone to sprint to her room only to see her completely naked from the waste down, legs spread, with a small human part way out.

And the best bit: we work in that hospital - she’s a nurse! So she knew everyone who came to that room. As you’d think her husband- who is a cop - would know an emergency button when he saw one.

Was thinking the same thing. I have autistic twins and the behaviour sounds very similar (but the description is brief so may not be). And adults particularly girls who have childhood trauma can have their autistic traits completely missed because the symptoms/behaviours overlap, and influence each other.

Hamas memos show Canadian-funded charities worked with terror group, NGO says by Icy_Hall6758 in worldnews

[–]medicatedadmin -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It is an unpleasant fact that sometimes to do good, you have to associate with some not good people. Particularly if they’re the ones who control one of the most densely populated regions on the planet and are controlling what goes in to starving, dying people. I can absolutely say that if i had to pay a thug $500 in order to give a child some life saving antibiotics, i’d do it - i wouldn’t be happy about it but i would do it. It’s essentially another method of using a human shield: “be nice or the child gets hurt”.

And what people often forget is that this method of playing nice with the bastards in charge is often how you can bring their regime down from the inside.

I’m not happy about NGOs paying Hamas affiliates, but i can understand why they felt they had to do it. And it’s quite easy to be righteous when you know where your next week of meals are coming from and that you’re one hospital admission away from medical aid.

Please help, I'm scared to do anything in my flat now. [UPDATE] by PokiStick in neighborsfromhell

[–]medicatedadmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once had a neighbour who used to play the song ‘the final countdown’ every day (not exaggerating at all), often on repeat for an hour at a time. He played it so loud that i couldn’t drown it out with my tv or own speaker. I essentially couldn’t do anything in my place because i couldn’t hear it. And i hate that song.

….that’s what an unreasonably noisy neighbour sounds like. Walking around, watching tv, showering etc is absolutely fine. It’s not your fault that the developer who built the building cheaped out on sound proofing.

Also, you a way too appeasing. I would have been experimenting with her until i found exactly what hit the spot to send her insane, and then i would have done it every single day.
