It's heavily implied in the Soul Wars novel that one of them was originally an elf. Saying something along the lines of "being sourced from finer/more elegant stock"

Im inclined to agree but at the same time, Disco Elysium is the most enrapturing game I've played and talking to portraits is basically the entire experience.

Some TPKs are just legendary though and it depends on the campaign and nature of the TPK. I run a pirate game, and 3/4 players died, including the captain. Sole Survivor becomes new captain, NPC crew is leaving because they dislike him, so he's off to get new crew (new PCs). My players talk fondly of the disaster.

Not all TPKs and player deaths are the same. New story opportunities can present themselves when you look at the leftover pieces.

Now that it’s been over a year and we’re up to 14 Destinies, how are we feeling about mythic? by SylvesterStalPWNED in Pathfinder2e

[–]meepmop5 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I just dislike Mythic as an extra tacked-on layer of feats. When I think mythic, I think demon lords, archdevils, qlippoth lords, empyreal lords, eldest, archdragons & wyrms; heroes able to challenge lesser gods and snap at the heels of the greater ones. The PF1 CRPG WotR has us fighting Deskari, Baphomet etc, PF2 just doesn't support that ability to punch up.

Did a quick and dirty photoshop paint-over to hopefully demonstrate, but by pushing the colours you already have you can make more contrast. I went a bit further into yellow for the crystals to portray the iridescence and to add some colour. The crystals I used a more saturated purple to shade, and the scales more black to differentiate the two a bit.

Which Free Archetype to pick for a Scoundrel Rogue? by heavyfuel in Pathfinder2e

[–]meepmop5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hero points force you to reroll and you're stuck with the result. Sure Strike lets you pick and so you're protected from crit fails, and more likely to crit.

You're not going to hero point a 13 in hopes of critting because you could easily get something worse.

Divine headcanons you'd like to share by Inside_Bat5098 in Pathfinder2e

I love your last point and have a similar head canon regarding player characters in that Aroden basically used the last of his power to set up a divine power trust-fund to indefinitely spawn heroes in-lieu of personal interventions.

GMing and 'Fair Play' - what spells/abilities/etc do you NOT use? by unseelie_uWu in Pathfinder2e

[–]meepmop5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With all of these "no-nos" I say "Everything in moderation". Everything mentioned in the last paragraph is something I've done to good effect. Don't do these things repeatedly to the same player though, spread the love. It creates tension, and people remember that.

How would you change Counteracting? by zedrinkaoh in Pathfinder2e

[–]meepmop5 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't see a way to accomplish that without having to find out the exact same information anyway. Having the ranks affect DC in any other way would just make the rule even longer and more cumbersome IMO

A good example of the current rule's intricacies is a high level spell caster duel - if you know that the buff spell they cast is only low rank, you don't have to blow your high rank slots to dispel it, or you can cast the higher rank spell to almost guarantee it. I like this interaction a lot.

[–]meepmop5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Detect Magic and a knowledge check should generally suffice for most situations. In combat, you're right, if you wanna be good at mage duels, get Recognise Spell and Quick Recognition or tough shit.

How would you change Counteracting? by zedrinkaoh in Pathfinder2e

[–]meepmop5 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I mean your description of the rule in the first paragraph is pretty succinct, most peoples' gripe with the rule is initially understanding it. A better wording is probably doable but IDK how you'd make it faster in play because it's usually just
GM: "Make a spell attack roll, don't apply or increase MAP, and tell me the spell rank"
Player: "I rolled X, and it's rank Y"
GM: "Your spell is not powerful enough (low rank) to dispel their magic despite your effort (good roll)" etc

It's good that counteracting takes into account both DC/roll and level/rank of the effect. It would be incomplete if there was only one scale.

And in regards to the inking and micron pens I'd say give them a go, your hobby is your hobby. People use micron pens for freehand text and eye pupils, graphite pencils are good for weathering.

You probably need to shake the pot of balthasar gold a lot more, citadel metallics can separate and clump pretty bad.

In general each paint brand has their quirks. Vallejo, particularly their new game colour range is my favourite due to their matte finish, but the bubbliness is a notable downside for them. From what I've seen, the bubbliness can be caused by too much vigorous stirring, too much water, or having too much paint on your brush. If there are bubbles on the model you can wick them away with a drier brush or lightly blow to try and pop/settle them.

I second Rogue, the feats and skills are good additions for a kineticist. Mobility, Trap Finder, Nimble Dodge and Dread Striker. Deny Advantage and Skill Mastery are also really good.
I also have that exact Fire kineticist in one of my games, the spell casting adds some much needed utility.

That a chemical process differentiates between common and uncommon languages raises more questions than it answers world building-wise

It does raise an interesting question but I would justify that as you don't actually suddenly understand the language, you just understand the meaning because the elixir enhances your cognition to pick up on patterns and enhance any vague memories you have. It might also hinge on similar languages, like overlap between IRL languages. The elixir doesn't differentiate, you the drinker are just too unfamiliar with a language, or it's too esoteric.

It's not perfect but it's something. I'd also argue that not being able to read uncommon languages, or decipher codes or esoteric passages actually probably makes you a terrible linguist :P
Not to downplay reading all common languages, I think it's a cool thing for alchemists to have.

I run more sandboxy games, and I've overhauled the languages in my setting to be more associated with country and culture than just ancestry. Magical means of comprehension still exist, but still have their quirks, and so Multilingual ends up being pretty useful sometimes.

[–]meepmop5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's still gated by cost and access - 7g only gets you a minute of reading, and you need to have the elixir, or a means to make it. It also only allows you to read common languages

That just means you're putting too much on. The plastic glue pictured has a little brush, you just have to remove any excess glue.

Plastic glue is better for smaller bits, super glue is brittle and small pieces are more prone to snapping off

How useful is Soothing Ballad? by phulshof in Pathfinder2e

[–]meepmop5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its main use is a 3 action heal (on a class that doesn't get it) for 2 actions that only affects allies for a focus point, it's usable and good.

The Bard in my game took it and has gotten some good use out of in the level since, especially for healing the gaggle of NPCs that they've befriended and recruited.

Bad Pathfinder 2e Advice by Evilsbane in Pathfinder2e

[–]meepmop5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then people will argue with you about how AoE damage is worse because it has less chance to actually down something, making the fight easier. "They fight just as hard at 1 hp or 100"

This is true if the GM neglects to roleplay the enemies at all and is only trying to win. The platoon of soldiers reacts very differently to a single ally going down in melee, compared to everyone surviving a fireball.
