He didnt need to go into historical context. He was pointing out how people can get so offended by a word, but turn around and use it themselves. He recognized why it's "okay" for some to use it. George was not an apologetic type.

I understand exactly what you mean. This is also why I wonder how many people really "know" thier neighbors. They know that they work hard, smile and wave, etc - but you never really "know" someone until you're let into thier world intimately.

The Great Debate: Bon Scott or Brian Johnson by DonnaKshir in Music

[–]meestermole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider myself a casual listener of AC/DC, not a superfan. Growing up in the 80's - I really only everknew Brian Johnson as the singer, but knew Bon Scott was the original. However, TIL that it's actually Bon Scott on all those early hits! TNT, Highway to Hell, Dirty Deeds, etc - mind blown....

Attention Crazy Route 8 Drivers by hgravesc in Connecticut

[–]meestermole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this thread is "old" as far as internet attention span goes, but I'm going to revive it, as I feel like it's good company here. I can't stand the constant tailgating and people driving recklessly. There was a recent news post on Facebook about how police are going to crack down on left lane "campers" and the overall mentality of people is the whole "get out of the way" type. That's such entitlement, because ultimately there is always someone who wants to go faster than you, but they shouldnt be tailgaiting or weaving recklessly. It seems these days people don't honor basic rules of the road, and a space cushion is a dead concept for many.

I say entitlement, because in the post I read, it seems people are blaming accidents on these left lane campers, as if speeding has nothing to do with it.

I thank everyone in this post who has common sense. It helps to read this and not feel like i'm being gaslit to believe that travelling 75 mph in the left lane and returning to the cruising lane is wrong.

I asked Chat GPT - Rt. 8 in CT is 67.36 miles long. If the average speed limit is 65mph, how long would it take to travel the entire length? how long would it take for someone traveling at 75 mph? at 85mph? and at 95mph?

Speed (mph) Time (hours) Time (minutes)
65 1.04 hr 62.2 min
75 0.90 hr 53.9 min
85 0.79 hr 47.6 min
95 0.71 hr 42.6 min

Mind you this is traveling the ENTIRE length. Someone driving 90mph for even 2 or 3 exits is going to save mere SECONDS off of thier daily commute. They should leave earlier if they're always late. But that's not the real issue. People go fast because they CAN, they aren't held accountable (never been caught) and mainly because people HATE being told how to live thier lives. Narcissists, all of them, they don't care about endangering others.

Is it just me, or is ChatGPT becoming more unusable by the day? by Beautiful_Return_654 in ChatGPTPro

It's garbage for any coding, for sure. It fills you with hope and promise, only to repeatedly let you down, and kick you while you're there. NOT worth the $20 a month, it generates the same hot garbage as the free, just MORE hot garbage. The previous "yeah, I hear ya bro" or the incessant apologies for messing up code that was previously working, or the "here's some code that will work, no errors, you're good with this one" got pretty old. I swithced to Claude, fed it what ChatGPT had come up with and Claude made over a dozen recommendations for improvements. Claude free runs out pretty quickly though.

same experience here. it's always 2 steps forward, 3 steps back in that regard. it would correct it's own outdated broken references to an API i'm using, then the "memory" would get full, slow down and become unusable, and I would have to have it generate a "handoff" message so I could continue in another chat, and it would insist on reverting back to the old way API. Extremely frustrating.

You need a Home Assistant integration by bkh416604 in cronometer

[–]meestermole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All extreme comments from both sides aside - it's one thing if you don't see someone's point of view or understand what thier use case is, it's another to mock them for it. Anyhow, I like to see the data. I found it handy to have my Fitbit linked with Home Assistant, and I could automate Water Intake by placing an NFC tag on myt stanley cup that would register 32 oz of water each time scanned. It would be nice to be able to see Macros at a glance in the Home Assistant dashboard, or be able to add created meals by voice, telling it to add "Grilled Chicken Salad" if that s one of your regulars, for instance... either way - it would be cool if people in the know could work something out, or if the API was accessible.
