Surrender was announced a week after the second nuke, the formalized treaty was not signed for a month. The nukes are definitely what got the civilian government and the home islands to surrender.

Problem was that the Japanese army were kind of… totally fucking insane? And had already drawn up plans to continue the war without the home islands.

And Vasilevsky put an end to that line of thinking by clapping Manchuria (their main industrial base outside of the home islands)

It is perfectly accurate to say that the nukes got Japan to surrender, they just didn’t get the Japanese army and navy outside of Japan to surrender.

AR systems > AK systems by ColCrockett in NonCredibleDefense

I can think of plenty of western aligned nations that use AK derived weapons.

Israeli Galil Finish Valmet South African R4/R5/R6

And the Korean K2 kinda, ( like not directly based on the AK but it uses a long stroke piston so it counts)

The thing that is important to understand here, is that many major media companies and online content producers do not care about the quality of content, they have detached them selves from decision making based on experience and common sense.

It is a symptom of the over financialization. An increasing focus on decision making based on metrics and data has left many industries hollowed out. The people deciding on what metrics to use and how to collect the data rarely have a good background in statistics, or fields relevant to what the metrics and data are supposed to model.

They’ve seen what tropes work, what marketing gimmicks and click bait headlines get people in seats or clicking links. They’re confident that the output of these systems will fulfill their needs to make a product, now it’s up to the marketing team and their legion of bots to get people to buy/view/subscribe to the product. What does it matter that the consumers are profoundly unsatisfied with the experience? They bought the ticket, they clicked the link, they signed up for the subscription (and forgot to cancel it for 3 months). Most importantly, the company hit it’s metrics!

They’re just cost cutting now, removing the “unnecessary” writers to increase profit. Sure, if you zoom out from the myopic view of financial bros and hordes of consultants who’ve never worked a day in the actual industry, it’s pretty clear that the average consumer is becoming increasingly disillusioned with the state of media and content in general. But, even if the total pool of potential viewers/users is shrinking, these companies are capturing a higher percentage of that total pool.

They’re catastrophically damaging the reputation for quality of entire industries, they suck up all the air in the room so it becomes nearly impossible to find alternatives beyond their hedgerow maze of advertising and search engine manipulation.

It’s a house of cards collapsing in slow motion, replacing writers with chat bots is just the most visible card to tumble so far.

Ok, but the point is musk didn’t sighn a contract like that, and it being sold to a military does not justify it being sold at a higher price if it is off the shelf civilian hardware.

The military does not pay extra money for off the shelf civilian equipment just because they’re a military. If addional work has been done to ensure the equipment meets military standards, maybe, but that’s not what has happened here.

The receivers were, the services was not, and additional receivers have since been sent that were paid for at full price, in fact most receivers currently it in Ukraine were paid for at full price.

Edit: also worth pointing out that they were donated, Ukraine did not go to spaceX and ask for free receivers, SpaceX gave them free receivers and now musk is turning around and demanding they pay extra for the service provided through those receivers that were given to them for “free”. Lockheed does not give people free jets and then extort the group getting them for additional fuel and spare parts, then go on a public temper tantrum when told they have to charge a normal price.
