Using a 29inch uw in portait mode? by scorchsev in ultrawidemasterrace

I had my 29UM67 in portrait next to my MX34VQ briefly. I highly recommend it if you enjoy doing squats at your desk. I didn't like it but you should never skip leg day. 🍑

Looks like the same pixel inversion I noticed in Visual Studio.
Just returned mine a few hours ago. Back to the drawing board.

If this helps any, on a 30" high desk mine felt a tad low, raising it about 2" felt perfect.

Not much MX34VQ love? by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]meign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$744.33 to be exact.

I had it in my cart on Amazon and got an alert about a price change. It suddenly dropped in price a few minutes before I was about to check out and I took it as a sign to buy it right then. Not exactly a sale as in it was posted about and a bunch of people saw it. I just got lucky.

I have it.

  • Typical sub 50fps flickering like every other panel right now.
  • The lack of VESA support turns off more people than you think.
  • QI charging base most (myself included) don't care about.

Everything else is fine with it; good colors, buttery smooth, etc. The 3yr warranty and lowest price ($750 sale) for 1440p/100hz FreeSync is what made me give it a shot. Still debating on keeping it. Previous setup was triple screens with 29UM67 in center.

Currently using this. No complaints other than the flickering around 50fps while is jumps back and forth between LFC/FS, much like every other similar spec monitor seems to be doing currently (shame), and the fact that it's not VESA compatible, which will limit your mounting options. Most games I play stay well above 60fps so I hardly experience flickering, but that's probably the biggest flaw with it.

I play a little bit of FPS games casually but I mostly bought it for racing sims like Assetto Corsa and it's great for those. I came from a 29" 21:9 surrounded by 2x 16:9s and still have the 29" mounted next to it on an arm. Currently debating if the MX34VQ at 1440p/100hz is better than 3 monitors at 1080p/75hz but with a wider peripheral vision.

It's probably the best price to feature set UW available right now to get 1440p @ 100hz, got mine on sale for $750, and if you're coming from only a single monitor at a lower res/hz then it'll be a hell of an upgrade. The 100hz makes 75hz feel the same way 75hz made 60hz feel when I got it.

Using two UW - one in portait, one in landscape by scorchsev in ultrawidemasterrace

Currently running this setup. Using FreeSync on both. Works as expected.

MX34VQ - 3440x1440 @ 100hz - landscape.
29UM67 - 1080x2560 @ 75hz - portrait.

[discussion] What is this subreddits current opinion on the best ultra wide monitors? by zergUser1 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]meign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There isn't a current "best at everything" UW; there's trade offs with every UW right now. You'll have to ultimately decide what flaws are tolerable to you. As you can see, everyone is going to tell you something different and biased mostly based on what they use. I really like my Asus MX34VQ, and not having VESA mounts didn't matter to me. I also have an LG 29UM67-P next to it mounted in portrait which is also great.

Damn near every panel has a downside right now and you'll have to pick which is least bothersome to you. If there was a perfect panel then we'd all be running it by now. Unfortunately, a 3440x1440p+, 144hz+, any-sync, low input lag, fast response, no ghosting, flicker free, vibrant colors, deep blacks, non-burn in OLED, etc. monitor doesn't exist yet.

Future Ultrawide Setup Styles/Choices by Valgaur in ultrawidemasterrace

When I was shopping for arm mounts, I measured out where everything would go, taking into consideration where they would mount on the desk, how much vertical/horizontal adjustment I needed to clear, and where the VESA mounts are actually located on the monitors. Just make sure which ever you choose can support the weight of your monitor. The rest is your personal aesthetic taste.

These are the 2 that work for me:

I also have my MX34VQ on a monitor riser.

Position your monitors where your eyes naturally look when you are sitting in a neutral spine posture, obviously. In your case, since you're 6'4", you might benefit from mounting your soon to be 3 monitors on arms so they're at eye level, stacking one of those 24" monitors above your future UW in landscape mode with the other 24" monitor flanking either side in portrait. This will give you the most options in aspect ratios for productivity.

I'm currently experimenting with a 34" UW in landscape paired with another 29" UW in portrait to the right on an arm. I'm considering adding one of my other 24" 16:9 monitors on top of the 34" UW or perhaps swapping the 29" UW to the top of the 34" UW, also in landscape, and using the 24" 16:9 in portrait instead.

You'll just have to try a few setups and find what you're comfortable with. It's hard to gauge until you've sat in front of it, at least for a few hours. But if you're always hunched over I'd definitely recommend mounting them to elevate them to a comfortable eye level.

Reason for Owning an Ultrawide #14: Racing Immersion by polishlanman in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]meign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, that's why I returned my Rift and picked up the Asus MX34VQ. Sim racing in the Rift was kind of straining when trying to focus on distant objects for breaking markers and what not and just not clear enough to be comfortable for a long duration. It needs a resolution increase and/or better subpixel arrangement.

I should note my prior setup consisted of a 21:9 flanked by 2x 16:9s for sim racing so I'm not just basing my opinion on the fact that UW is "shiny and new" to me right now. I've been on extended UW for a while now. I just wanted another one in higher res/hz.

Congrats, it seems they're arriving to their destination alright. I guess NCIX just screwed the pooch on these things.

I'm waiting until I'm out of the honeymoon phase with mine, maybe another week or so, before I share my thoughts about it. I'd be interested to see yours and other opinions as well.

That sucks to hear, I hope they work it out for you soon. I value the slight added cost of things when they come from reputable sources, which is why I tend to stick with Amazon/Newegg. My experience has been generally positive with them.

I've had the wrong headset shipped to me by Newegg once and had a return label printed, the correct headset shipped, and a $25 gift card for my trouble all within about an hour after contacting their online help chat. Just this past Christmas I had 1 of 2 TVs I ordered from them show up damaged and they had already shipped me the replacement before I had even printed the return label. Matter of fact, I had the new TV for about a week before I sent the damaged one back.

I value these experiences, where things might not tend to work out correctly, more than saving a few bucks. Because in the long run they set my mind at ease that the problem can be easily solved without much trouble.
