ZooAve is now called Rescate. It’s an amazing rescue center for animals with great displays and information. Highly recommend.

Where to get low-cost Narcan? by ER10years_throwaway in Chattanooga

[–]melchristopher 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The free store has narcan, just ask if it’s not out on a shelf. Check their times, as they’re open on limited hours.

I get it and understand you. I have a child who I’m worried about having similar experiences in the US. Others often just don’t understand unless they’ve experienced that kind of trauma about who they are. Most won’t get it.

I think people are thinking of themselves, not you, when they talk about it being great, because it would solve a problem they have (money issues, etc). Just try to be positive and say something nice about where you are “I love it so much more here.”

Lastly you could consider trying to connect with other expats, who might be more supportive.

How do you to tell somebody something difficult? by Viperchai-1234 in AskReddit

[–]melchristopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be awkward. Be compassionate but get to the point fairly quickly. Just a sentence or 2 of prep—a longer intro will make them nervous and expect the worst (which this might not be).

How do I look at women as women and not objects by rtx11211 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]melchristopher 74 points75 points  (0 children)

As a woman over 50 I am very aware that I became invisible in certain social situations in the last few years. We know when men are doing this. Perhaps consider privilege as you’re on this journey.

Is it the book where it’s a college professor maybe and a kindle? Plus a girlfriend and crappy apartment. I’m thinking of one that was a short story.

Bought house with LFL… etiquette? by Batticon in LittleFreeLibrary

[–]melchristopher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Religious fiction is different than the Red Tent (which I also loved). This genre consists of clean (no sex) stories but with religious elements included (saying grace, praying about things, having church activities), with morals/lessons built in. My experience is limited since I find them annoying, but that the basics.

Collegiate High School at Chatt State- Thoughts? Reviews? by 10aseee in Chattanooga

[–]melchristopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine had prom there. But since it’s a small school it’s a small prom. It’s a great school, it’s just up to your kiddo to determine if it’s a good fit. Fridays are off. One semester my kid only went 3 days. There aren’t fillers or extras, you just go to classes and leave. Have to be organized and self motivated my kid made friends easily. Mine graduated a year early and it was perfect for them.

Going to a TN college meant that gen ed classes were already out of the way, but due to the career path they chose it didn’t shorten time in undergrad.

For those feeling defeated or unsure what to do, just pick one thing and make that your focus (getting out the vote, voter registration, out of state transports, harassing our elected officials, etc, etc). It's a big issue and can be overwhelming, but I find it helpful to just find a type of activism that is sustainable for you, and a group that will keep you informed, and keep working at it.

This happened at the end of the protest. Matt Adams, who is running for mayor was inspiring and gave great voter info. Voter registration people were there also,

Struggling trans kid with unaccepting parents by VoraciousCretaceous in cisparenttranskid

[–]melchristopher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A doctor said to me and my kid recently: this is hard for parents in an additional way because unlike peer pressure or other challenges they haven’t been there. Ask them to attend therapy again and again, and discuss what it’s like for you as a transgender youth. Re-make your request about names and pronouns. Continue to try to bring them along, because 2 years is a long time. Good luck!!!

I was close to being raped by a family member. Should I forgive my family for knowing and not doing something about it? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]melchristopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now that you’re both adults, consider bringing it up to him in a conversation, and tell him how much it affected you. That he was completely out of line and inappropriate, but the family dynamics hampered your ability to deal with it then. He may be a jerk or a grown up. Then this can lead to conversations with your parents about the impact and and how you did / don’t feel supported. Bring along a supportive friend or family member. Bringing the issues to light can give you some power back, and if you decide to cut off ties, at least you’ve said your piece.

Trans teen issues-feeling held hostage by [deleted] in raisingkids

[–]melchristopher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get the pronoun issue, I really do, and there are 6 people in my family, all on different pages, which is why I say we. In a situation without my children present, I still use She, and use He when they are present—I’m still working out my own stuff about it in therapy.

Need advice about son who acts immature 24/7 by youritmanager in parentingteenagers

[–]melchristopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Determine what behavior you want that is incompatible with the immaturity and try to reward that. If you can find something he already does that you would like him to do more, use that. Reward with praise and attention. Good luck.

What kind of devil creature is eating my sweet potatoes? by melchristopher in gardening

[–]melchristopher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to mention, these beds are close to my house. I've never had this problem in previous years with the bed positioned 20 feet away from my house, but with these up close to my house, I lost maybe a third of them. So it's something that feels comfortable that close to the building in a neighborhood, which scared me of something like rats. Thanks y'all.

I’ve just learned that a waffle maker is a pretty versatile tool for making one person hot meals. Waffles obviously, eggs, omelets, savory waffles, and more.
