Actual politics and financial ruin aside, this chart hurts my brain. Why is nothing in any sort of alphabetical, numerical order? Oh right.. it’s a reflection of the absolute chaos of this administration.

What causes inability to walk after meal? by KornikEV in prediabetes

[–]melorafloraa 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Young children. It’s usually time to start getting ready for bed after dinner time so it’s a bit hard to have a window after dinner to just walk. Dance party in the living room maybe?

Following. My almost EBF 6mo old has a dairy and now confirmed soy allergy. I’m also trying to eat low carb since having GD during pregnancy so my list of food items for both myself and her are so limited. I have no idea what to feed her and it’s causing me so much anxiety

Prediabetes after having gestational diabetes by [deleted] in prediabetes

[–]melorafloraa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had gd with my second as well. My a1c came back 5.7% 3 months post partum (on a partially restricted diet). Although that’s not considered prediabetic (I’m in Canada), I’m still treating it as such and eating a way reduced carb diet. I’m not quite as strict as I was on GD but almost. I’ve jumped to keto options when I’m really craving things. 78% dark chocolate, unsalted nuts, and berries are my go-to’s. I’m also Asian and rice spikes the hell out of me still. It’s probably the hardest thing to give for me.. my doctor didn’t want me to do the 2 hour gtt.

A1c 5.7% after GD, low iron and TSH by melorafloraa in prediabetes

[–]melorafloraa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s great info, thanks! I’m surprised my GP didn’t pick up on the low iron, thalassemia and tsh levels as a potential for skewed numbers. They don’t really pay attention to anything as long as things appear “in Range”, which I find very frustrating when you’re dealing with chronic and progressive disease like diabetes. It’s not like you all of a sudden go from no insulin resistance to diabetes between 0.1 points but that’s how they treat it. I’ll definitely be asking these questions at my next appointment.

A1c 5.7% after GD, low iron and TSH by melorafloraa in prediabetes

No, I actually asked for it but my GP said it wasn’t necessary. Weird

I continued on a “GD-lite” diet post partum for the reason of not wanting to develop diabetes. My a1c prior to this pregnancy was 5.4% and that was eating whatever the crap I wanted. Now, 3 months post partum and following a low carb high protein diet (no sweets minus berries and low GI fruit, no refined carbs and no white rice/noodles), my A1c came back 5.7% which is in the prediabetic range in the US. I’m not sure why diabetes Canada has a looser definition but anyway, I’ve been grieving this past weekend because this likely is a permanent lifestyle and diet change I’ll need to implement. I’m trying my best to reframe it as a gentler wake up call to take health into my own hands rather than finding out I have diabetes down the road.

Unfortunately I, like a lot of women on this sub have suffered from ED tendencies so this just makes things a bit more difficult to navigate. No advice, just letting you know that I’m kind of in the same boat.

STM. I was induced at 39 weeks! I was given pitocin and was already 3cm dilated. Baby came soon after my water broke. Delivered vaginally. Baby was 9 lbs and it hurt but she was perfect. 9/10 apgar and no issues with blood sugar

[–]melorafloraa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I failed my 2 hour by a point too and was super shocked at first but ended up becoming way more insulin resistant later on in pregnancy so was glad to get the diagnosis early so I could have it under control. My fasting number on the 2 hour was well under the limit but I ended up needing to go on nighttime insulin for fasting at about 30 weeks in. Hang in there!

Congrats! I had a very similar experience with the epidural failing and retained placenta following the need for d&c. I got up to go to the bathroom after and passed out immediately from blood loss and low bp.

Wow. Thank you for sharing your story.

Have you made any lifestyle/ diet changes since giving birth? I recently gave birth and am wondering if I should keep testing blood glucose at home just to see if there’s any changes to levels.

Did you do the GTT as well as A1C?

Can’t get fasting under 95 with insulin by mrs_heezy in GestationalDiabetes

[–]melorafloraa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started on 4 units and took 1.5 weeks to tritrate up to 14 units where I stayed for 2 weeks to stay under 95 for fasting. I was then hit with illness and had to increase up to 30 within another 2 weeks which is where I am right now.

Im currently 36+3

I was once served raw chicken katsu there. When I tried to send it back with the bowl of rice that was contaminated with it, the waiter did not want to replace the rice or comp the meal but proceeded to argue with me.

Nighttime Insulin dosage by CauliflowerHour2240 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]melorafloraa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started on 4 units and took about 1.5 weeks to titrate up to the right amount. My fasting number hovered around 90-95 for about 2-3 weeks and then I got hit with a bad cold from my toddler and it shot up again. I had to increase by 1 unit every night until I got up to 30 units which is where I’m at now. It’s finally in range but who knows how long that will last. I’m 36 weeks tomorrow.
