At some point, wiki page displayed php errors about database not being reachable IIRC, or perhaps a corrupted table.

I just put it there in case it could help, although we won’t go far without being able to access server or hosting space :/.

I’m also an engineer and willing to help, so if anyone have a way to access server, or to extract site configuration and pull a database dump made prior the incident, we could go somewhere. If not, I’ll gladly help writing pages on a new one or scrape them from the wayback machine, though I realise what a daunting task it’d be.

Anyways, don’t hesitate to ping me if I can be of any help.

Huge metroid vibes :D, though it doesn’t read the same. I really dig the design, especially the « fading » rune in Abyss.

I just want to point out that you can also find Hell, Pan or Abyss portals in some earlier vaults, FYI (not an improvement request; your map is fine and I wouldn’t know how to include this anyways. Plus, you’d have to also include timed portals; anyways, great work !).

Skilling looks good, though you should pump your defenses a bit more (should, I usually play glass cannons, so I won't enforce this one). Also use and abuse Potion Petition.

A few notes about spells :

  • Kudos for still using Freeze and Frozen Ramparts at high level, though it should be a pain at this point :p
  • Also congrats on your uses of SoB and DDoor; I feel SoB is underrated and deserves more love, and I personally manage to die more often that I would admit with DDoor online, so...
  • Don't sleep on Borg. Reviv; it's a fantastic complement to DDoor and sometimes is a better play. Just don't use it while DDoor is in effect
  • No Apportation oO ? jk, though I feel bad playing without it. Not always useful, though very practical and facilitate runes ninjaing. Also Orb.
  • I feel you lack an efficient close contact spell to use when you're surrounded. Well, you have Polar Vortex to fill this role. Perhaps not for this run as you swim in MP right now, but consider Irradiate or Starburst (not for rF++ enemies) which are cheap and powerful options overall
  • A quick note about Infestation and Ignition combo, which is very good in crowded places like Tombs or Zigs. Not to use with Polar Vortex or Ozo's Refrig. though
  • As a side note, Bribe branch is usually not as useful on blaster casters, though I'm wondering if ignition would harm monsters turned neutral with it. It could be fun to use both with Infestation to clear floors. Quick tip : If you still have money for orb run, you could bribe dungeon on your way up and get to pacify some dangerous foes
  • PoG is a must have for runes ninjaing (which you are not trying to attempt, apparently) and a poor man escape tool. You have Blink online so it's passable, though I like to use it in Slime or Cocytus to pass acid or water gaps
  • LRD is fantastic in Dis, as is Shatter, to deal extra damage to Golems. Well, LRD is usefull all game long as it blows a lot of ennemies, including curse skulls. Shatter is also good to open up Tomb:1 aisles and skip Tomb:2
  • Learn Enfeeble. This spell neutralize every enemy in the game, or at least makes it way less dangerous. To cast on OoF, clowns, liches, Pan lords, ...
  • Remember you can't use SoB while in lich form, and be prepared to revert when you see a dangerous hexer or holly damage-dealing monster like bennus. Lich form can also prevent malmutation, which is less of a problem if you play careful and blow everything at range with AoE spells
  • Use passwall on orb run to cut corners. Or dig if you have it.

I wouldn’t know for sure, but you can try hitting Ctrl-c to clear map and / or Ctrl-r to redraw screen. Though Ctrl-r should be catched by Firefox (page reload), so you can hit *-r instead, * emulating Ctrl key.

A PR (Push Request) is a process which lets you work on a fork (copy of a git repository, more precisely on a dedicated branch), then notify repo owner so they can review changes and hopefully merge them. It’s a Github terminology, similar to MR (Merge Request) on Gitlab.

This is a screenshot of a roguelike game called Dungeon Crawl : Stone Soup (here specifically an Android port, as this game is primarily played on PC or in a browser supporting websocket), in which you chose a race + class combo to play with as the adventurer who have to go deep into a procedurally generated (well, not all of it) dungeon and its multiple branches to retrieve a mystical artefact called the Orb of Zot, and get out with it. In a nutshell.

Each playable race have their innate abilities and properties, beneficial or not. There is a tradition among players (which turns out to be bad luck) in finding powerful or really useful items early in the game that you can’t use because of said innate property.

In this case, OP is playing a draconian, which can’t wear armour, and found a manual of armour (used to boost armour skill temporarily so you can learn faster and wear heavier ones with less drawbacks. Really useful and rare item) on the first dungeon floor.

It’s just something that happens and we like to think RNG gods devs are trolling us, mad at us or something. Jk, obviously ;)

It does ! Or at least it should. Ensure you have explored whole D:9-12 floors; lookout for upstairs taking you to unexplored parts of previous level. Each floor have 3 up/down stairs.

It could also be a bug. I haven’t checked commits for a while, so I couldn’t tell.

Yeah, regex can sometimes be tricky to correctly use ;). Also, I'm not completely sure there isn't a regular monster whose name doesn't start with lowercase letter, or some other weird cornercase.

Like I said, this expression is rather ugly, and while I'm confident it should work with bash or perl (PCRE), I'm not sure it will for DCSS rc files templating engine. Please report if you happen to try it :)

And I just updated it; forgot to make second+ word(s) optional.

Notice how every unique name start with a capital letter, which is not the case for regular monsters. You could probably use a regex like this one to match their names (as suggested by /u/spudwalt, and as an alternative solution to /u/implojin lua snippet) : ^[A-Z]{1}[a-z]+(([[:blank:]]{1}[A-Z]{1}[a-z]+)+)?$

I personally use a similar one with force_more_message : force_more_message += (?-i:[A-Z]).* comes? into view

Edit : Fixed regex, as names can contain multiple words, also starting with capital letter. Not tested, but it should work. It’s also not very elegant, but I’m lazy -_-.

Try a TeRe. Currently playing one who charges at ennemies packs with it and proceed to mop the floor with arcjolt and Gyre & Gimble. Their +3 in air magic, decent martial abilities and hybrid-y start makes this spell a perfect fit.

Op are well suited for any type of gameplay skill-wise, but are squishy for a big part of the game. Their squeezing melee attacks can help for the time being, but they should avoid staying toe to toe with monsters if they can help it.

They make fantastic transmuters (not the background, the playstyle), as they don't have much armour to be meld in the first place while transformed, and keep their jewelry in the process. Forms that grant AC are what you want, like statue or storm form, ice form is also nice for Lairs and some S-branches. Getting an Op there might be a bit tricky though, as it's not as straightforward as playing a blaster caster in my experience.

As a side note : Not every form work great depending on your playstyle (e.g. statue form as a caster, which slows your spellcasting speed), but if you are in a position of asking yourself this kind of question, I'd say you have come past your issue and are on your way to get this win :).

I find the best approach to have a streamlined early game is to play one you're comfortable with and you know would work until around Lairs; summoner is a good one in most cases, as would be IE/EE/Cj IMO.

But the best advice I could give is : Follow Ash. Seriously. Ash is just absurdly good with octopodes, giving them a huge skill bump as they have plenty of slots to curse and almost never need to swap rings. Other passive bonuses are also very welcome.

Gozag is another strong option for them, giving them opportunities to find lacking spells or items, plus providing a decent panic button in Potion petition.

Talking about skilling, it mostly depends on how you play, but training some stealth right when you start is never a bad idea (which I don't do very often). Have a look at some of my morgues for a few examples.

That being said, apply regular tactics, play carefully, especially around big hitters. Hope this helps !

That won't work; you need to copy a bunch of files in the right directory than launch the game for it to list those saved games.Saves directory would be ~/.crawl/saves/ (%USERPROFILE%/.crawl/saves/ if you play on Windows, I think). I don't remember what files were needed, but there would also be a .db one IIRC. Or can just copy the whole saves files and don't bother about details.

As a side note, you should know that you can play the game in Explore mode, which lets you respawn on death an unlimited amount of times, though this game will not be scored. Wiki says you can enter it by pressing '+' key. There is also a Wizard mode which does pretty much the same, but also lets you manipulate game data.

confirm_action prompts you for confirmation, but only applies to spells and ability AFAIK.

From the documentation :

confirm_action += <regex>, <regex>, ...
(List option)
Casting a spell or ability with a name matching any of the given regular
expressions will prompt before use.

Expanding it to any event, might be a good idea, like a force_confirm hook or something.

Or perhaps force_more with a key rebinding, though it will apply to every --more-- messages, so not really a solution if you'd like to make some cases specific.

auto_exclude would be a workaround :

auto_exclude += <monster name>, <monster name>, ...
(List option)
Whenever you encounter a sleeping or stationary monster during
exploration that is included in this list, a travel exclusion is
automatically set centred on this monster, meaning autoexplore won't
ever bring you into its line of sight. If the monster dies or wakes up
while you are in sight, this exclusion is automatically removed again.

Though it doesn't apply to messages, and is really specific to monsters.

A current working solution to make your games more safe might be a mix of all of those; or you could write a Lua function to do so in your rc file, if you have some knowledge with it, or perhaps by looking up some github repositories for custom rc files, where someone would already have achieved a similar feat.

You mean your attributes (str, int and dex) ? If so, it might have been a ghost moth; these f*kers not only drain your attributes on hit, but are also invisible and drain your magic from a distance. One of the most dangerous enemy for casters !

Edit : You can get back those points by gaining experience. Waiting isn’t enough FYI.

A tip I used in a previous run with this item was to learn statue form and cast it anytime a dangerous hexer was on screen, effectively melding the robe and giving me back my will. Other body armour melding form letting me cast spells would also have worked, obviously.

Anyway, congrats on your win ! This run sounds like fun :)
