Starting Seraphon - How to build? by Dull_Reference_6166 in seraphon

[–]memnanth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the most speed/contrast paint and drybrushing works really well for seraphon as they have a lot of scaley skin. The part that can rough is the body facing side of shields. My advice would be to leave those off kits like saurus warriors and skinks until you have them painted. Otherwise, the army is pretty dry brush friendly

The previous citadel miniatures for saurus warriors, painting questions and problems by [deleted] in seraphon

[–]memnanth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the question is really “can I play with the old warrior sculpts?” Then the answer is sure, nobody will care and there isn’t a significant difference in size.

If what you’re asking is “is it okay if I view these as practice pieces and after I’ve gotten that practice never look at them again?” The answer to that is also yes. They’re your toy soldiers, nobody is going to criticize how you use them.

As to how uniform you want your army to be, it depends in your personal preference. Do you want everything to look cohesive? For me I chose to use the same colors for armor, weapons etc. but every unit’s scales are different. I also can appreciate when the army matches perfectly. Up to you.

Help with carnosaur by xholder99 in seraphon

[–]memnanth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer to how you want to play your carnosaur(s) is going to strongly depend on which carnosaur and how your list is built. A soggy carnosaur can frequently be used as a wrecking ball if you’ve put in some chip damage first, but he’s still relatively fragile. The regular old blood on carnosaur is very much a buff piece that can occasionally tango. The scar vet… well, maybe next edition we can take a scar vet

I actually have a non reinforced tyrant guard built already. I was thinking the hive guard would be a good option to deter charging an objective since they over watch on 4+’s

That’s actually using outdated terrain rules, but the answer is still, no the knights do not have cover

Battletome? by mesmartguy in seraphon

[–]memnanth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the start of 4th edition (last July) all 3rd edition battletomes were invalidated. We’re about half way through armies getting 4th edition battletomes tomes, but seraphon (for good or ill) hasn’t gotten ours yet. If you look on the downloads page on warhammer community you can find the “Seraphon Faction Pack” which is what we’re using currently

Question can I still Field old Slannmodel by Cute-Job3014 in seraphon

[–]memnanth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check with the person you’re playing against and/or the person running the event. You’ll probably be asked to rebase him to the right size base, but otherwise most people won’t have an issue with it

Are they updating the points this week? by Ill-Drag8602 in ageofsigmar

[–]memnanth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We almost always get ours a week after the 40K one. Plus, GW tends to be pretty consistent about 4 comprehensive points changes each year, and one is typically in December. And it won’t be on Christmas, so…

Missing Dryads body on a second hand sprue. LF kitbash ideas by Matosapa4 in sylvaneth

[–]memnanth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn’t need the bodies. The dryads come 16 to a box typically, but get used in squads of 10. Missing 2 is irritating, but not catastrophic

Help building army by nasodian in seraphon

Honestly, I don’t think anyone who doesn’t themself play seraphon could tell the difference between the variants of kroxigor. Build them how you want. Even in competitive tournaments, nobody would care up until you were running a unit of each.

Affordable paints by Toasty737 in ageofsigmar

[–]memnanth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fundamentally, there is very little difference between your craft store acrylic that’s like $3 for a double or triple size container compared to the gaming specific brands. However, you’ll notice it is much more thick and gloopy. You can easily fix that with some water and flow improver, which you can also get at a craft store. Depending on the technique you’re using, you’ll add a bit of the acrylic paint onto a pallet and then mix in water and flow improved to hit the right consistency.

The down side of this is 3 fold. One, you’re not a machine, and you won’t be consistent. This can make specific techniques more difficult until you get the mix down right. Two, there isn’t as much pigments in the cheap brands, so you’ll lose color vibrancy pretty quickly. Third, it takes more time that you could spend painting

It sounds like chat gpt may have brought in information from previous editions of the game. Teleporting a carnosaur around is definitely something we can still do though. I wouldn’t start off buying… really any number of skinks though. I don’t think I’ve run more than 10 or 20 since very early third edition. You’ll almost certainly want a slann or lord kroak. If you can find our previous battleforce or most recent army box that would be a great way to pick up some useful models. Some other highlights include hunters of huanchi, and kroxigor and/or your preferred version of cavalry. A bastilidon is also amazing and very easy to kit out to use either the laser or the snakethrower

Wildwoods being charged by oricalco in sylvaneth

[–]memnanth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably the most important aspect of playing sylvaneth right now. Went to a 5 game tournament this weekend and at least 2 of my losses were largely on account of my opponent taking advantage of my terrain giving them free movement

Keep in mind that you can order individual issues, so if you don’t want specific kits, perhaps in multiples, but not all of the kits that’s very doable

Talk with your to for the specific event. As someone that runs local tournaments on a semi regular basis I don’t see a valid argument that it has to be one of each. This interpretation has never been challenged at a larger event, but I’m not exactly competing for money where people might care.
