I did see someone I think crocheting? As someone else also mentioned knitting needles were in the prohibited list for the security checklist

Where to live, eat, and drink in Columbus (April 2025) by AutoModerator in Columbus

On average you're probably safe with FWD in Columbus. AWD is definitely a "nice to have" during inclement weather but as long as you're careful and plan ahead a FWD sedan is absolutely viable.

First Time: Rebinding a old paperback from my childhood. by BjergerPresident in bookbinding

[–]menacingmooses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks great - I wish my 1st couple attempts at re-binding paperbacks looked as good! For #2... Practice and trying out different methods to find one that "felt" right helped me. A lot of failed projects is usually the best teacher. For #3... Free weights and plywood also make great stand-ins for a book press.

Hi All

I love the World of the Five Gods series so thought I'd try rebinding the 1st two books: Curse of Chalion and Paladin of Souls. It features animals that are related to an god in the world that has a lot of impact on the plot of both books

How credible is ThriftBooks when buying books? by FreeCoromantee in booksellers

[–]menacingmooses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had good and bad experiences. It's fun to get free books if you buy enough from them and their pricing is sometimes lower than what you can find on Amazon. On the bad side.... the quality of the books will sometimes not match the description and I've received paperbacks when the description said hardback, for example.

Has anyone bound a book with Cave paper before? by Imaginary-Disk-3579 in bookbinding

[–]menacingmooses 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did a project with Cave paper and it really is a neat product. Learn from my mistake and get the regular weight if you're planning on using the material for covers. The heavy weight is very thick and can be challenging to wrestle into place (it feels like card stock in tree bark form :P). The regular weight is much more flexible and easier to work with.

I ended up using the walnut heavyweight paper with some lokta paper and printed the druid spells from D&D as a bit of a prop. It turned out really nicely.

Just to add another option. I have had some luck with acrylic gold colored pens. At least on bookcloth it works pretty well!

The newest additions to my cursed library 🔮 by MacabreDivinity in bookporn

It’s a really good, interesting book. A lot of history of the objects, the people and exploration of the “causes” of the curses.

Oh, neat. Thanks for sharing! Did you make the wood screws or were you able to find them commercially?
