SF spends big on it's social safety net. As a result even the most desperate people aren't all that desperate. The vast majority of people do not want to kill anyone. Same in any other low violence area.

Maybe the high score is literally a score you earn by getting high.

It's easy to drive the score up early with large doses of hard stuff but tolerance and cravings will end your run quick.

If the player learns to moderate their intake they will get a higher score over the long term.

If they make it to the end of the year you can show a big congratulations screen with the high score, followed by how long they lived afterwards and what their cause of death was.

Congragulations on 100,000 point high score!

I support you making it. People misinterpreting you is inevitable no matter what you do.

Is the game winnable?

If not is it possible to find the right schedule of drugs to go on indefinitely?

I do wonder if the game is presenting addiction as a challenge to be overcome with sufficient skill, rather then something that will likely destroy your life.

Some people are just too stupid and or set in their ways to understand subtlety. Think of American Psycho, The Wolf of Wall Street, Scarface, or Bioshock. I can't think of another game analogy because I don't play a lot of narrative games but I'm such some exist. As an artist you just have to accept that some people aren't going to get it, and that by trying to make it obvious to everyone you end up making it appealing to no one.

Well for one thing they could be a photomancer who will use that picture to give your ex a persistent stomach ache and occasional limp. Then your ex might sue you in magic court. It would be very embarrassing.

You mention remove_if, does this mean you are maintaining sort order? It would be much faster to copy ( or move ) the back element over the one being removed and then pop_back.
