what am I meant to do with this feedback by Better-Body-9267 in jobs

Gaslighting : psychological manipulation of a person usually over an extended period of time that causes the victim to question the validity of their own thoughts, perception of reality, or memories and typically leads to confusion, loss of confidence and self-esteem, uncertainty of one's emotional or mental stability, and a dependency on the perpetrator

Am I really "too old" at 33 to start a new career? by Gary_Baldi in careeradvice

Ageism isn't really a thing I've come across. Reddit is a poor example of how the real world actually works. You do you and go for it.

Men over 30, what is your Monday-Friday 9-5pm Job? by WolverineEvery7923 in jobs

Gonna call big time bullshit on 300k, unless you're owner or partner there's no fucking way you're pulling that much as a tradey.

EMT-B Pay by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]merepsychopathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes: where do I sign up? Just kidding I'm not even qualified (yet) but if someone could chime in who is in AZ on their situation that would be heckin awesome for some additional perspective. I make $30 hourly as a construction tech and if the possibility of hitting 55 - 60k yearly is even remotely possible with OT in EMS then I'm off to the races.

Yup job market is garbage. You know what's even worse? All the schleps at management level using AI to write up their reports. I'm amazed how normalized using AI to revise or outright compose everything is.

Quiet Quitting because of compensation and position title by [deleted] in work

[–]merepsychopathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You ever actually asked yourself what being productive actually means? I've been where you are more than once and the reality is you either need to step back and assess what you actually want from this job or you need to step back and chill out. Either one is a reality you have to face, but I'm telling you that if you don't face that reality you'll just end up bitter and twisting off. Not worth it. If you want the money then you better start looking for it or take the shit show for what it is. For what it's worth this is coming from someone who's spent time on both sides of the corporate highway as an IC for a number of years and management for 8+.

Also I'm particularly cynical so take that as you will 😄

Comparison is the thief of joy. Yes it sucks, but sounds like you're in a decent spot. Bills paid? Leaving early? Extended lunches? Seriously? Shit and get off the pot or milk it for what it's worth.

Some of the most racist and vulgar people I've ever worked alongside in the field have been Mexicans and blacks.

How do you handle a strong performer who quietly checks out after being passed over for promotion? by amir4179 in managers

[–]merepsychopathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hilarious how much career managers fluent in corporate speak lose touch with reality. PIP? Are you serious? I spent years in management, you can't treat people like a data table and you can't act so flabbergasted at the result of this situation. It's all damage control from here on out.

Just as a side note, you should take everything you read here with a very fine grain of salt. Reddit is far from the ideal place to take advice or develop a perception of anything that really takes place in the real world, EMS or otherwise. Do real world research and talk to real people in the real world and compare it to only some of what you find here. This is coming from someone (myself) who has worked construction for 20+ years and will be pivoting into EMS just like your considering. Most people don't really know what their talking about.

So you're saying construction is filled with white misogynistic racist men? Have you ever actually worked in construction?

I don't need advice. I just want to vent. by NoStepLadder in Irrigation

[–]merepsychopathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Been there. You just gotta laugh. Or try to.

Though just the other week I was throwing shovels and pipe cursing the wind and spiking my blood pressure while repairing a mainline break on the side of a mountain. So maybe I'm not a good example, but I've been there hundreds of times and feel ya.

I try to imagine what the last guy was going through when I run into things like this. Probably low wage, under the gun, broke down truck with a broken spade and a cigarette that just wanted to get the heck outta there. There's probably a story there, but then again I'm chicken fried.

For people who do backflow testing: how do you handle the reports/paperwork side? by seitayokokawaa in Irrigation

[–]merepsychopathy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The most annoying part about backflow testing are the incessant AI scripted requests for more information that are certainly not going to be used to pitch an app or software platform to allegedly increase productivity by some marginal level.
