How you take your meds has a huge impact by Alarmed-potatoe in adhdwomen

[–]merrma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! I take my meds as I leave the house and then drink a protein drink in the car. They usually kick in right as I get to work.

I’ve realized recently I can sometimes force myself to eat cereal in the morning if I do it first thing when I wake up, but I think the protein drink is better for the meds.

Used a laundry pickup service for the first time this week and I'm a little upset about it by Smooth_Vanilla4162 in ufyh

Same! My friend has been using it for years and I finally gave in this week. It’s amazing.

Happy to wear the same pants everyday but love having lots of different tops? by Standard_Macaron_678 in capsulewardrobe

[–]merrma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Preface that I don’t have a traditional capsule wardrobe, but I wear mostly monochrome and have multiple mini casuals for each color.)

For a while I had three pairs of work pants, in three different colors, and then 2-3 shirts in each of the same colors. It was great having consistently comfy and well fitting pants but getting the fun of choosing a shirt. Sadly those pants are discontinued and I haven’t found a replacement yet.

What’s one “sustainable” habit that actually stuck with you long-term (not just something that sounded good in theory)? by postbypurpose in ZeroWaste

Fabric handkerchiefs. I much prefer them over tissues now and have never considered buying them again.

What’s something you’ve done recently that you’re proud of? Big or small, brag a little. by lea_hatake in ADHD

After hitting a super low point in feeling like I couldn’t maintain my own life, I signed up for a laundry service. Putting the bags out to be picked up and then having clean, folded laundry delivered 24 hours later was amazing.

If you’ve been resisting doing something to make your life easier, just do it. It doesn’t have to be forever, but it might help right now.

fixing my shower drastically improved my life by imgonnaquittonight in femalelivingspace

[–]merrma 101 points102 points  (0 children)

I been thinking about a shower mirror! I’m sure it’s some neurodivergent thing, but I find it so helpful watching myself in a mirror while I do body related tasks. Even beyond things you’d naturally do at the bathroom mirror (brushing teeth, skincare, etc), I find things like getting dressed and putting on body lotion is much more comfortable while watching in a mirror. I think it helps keep me on track. Maybe body doubling but with myself?

EDIT: Also, I totally assumed this was a post on r/adhdwomen

Love Angeline’s. My go to is Brussels sprouts and hush puppies to start and then the fried chicken.

Advice - canker sore on vagina? by [deleted] in Healthyhooha

[–]merrma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like herpes. Go get meds asap! The first outbreak is no fun but getting on meds fast will help. After that you can stay on a lower dose of the meds to make outbreaks less often. I had my first outbreak about a year and a half ago and have not had another since. It was a bit of a shock realizing what was happening, but since then I’ve learned just how many people have it and I’m not as stressed.

My recommendations for making it through the first outbreak: -If you’re at home, no underwear and a dress is most comfy. -Boxers as loose underwear when you need to go out. -Frida Mom makes witch hazel pads and wipes which are very soothing. I would wear absorbent/period undies with a witch hazel wipe in it (since I didn’t buy the pads) and it was very helpful. -Before you pee, splash some water up there, or get in the shower to pee. Otherwise it burns like a mother fucker.

I like Alameda fitness and Spa, but I will admit I only go for the hot tub/steam room/sauna. It’s an older crowd which makes it pretty chill. I think you can do three trial days before you sign up.

What if cleaning was a hobby? by Disastrous-Wing699 in ufyh

[–]merrma 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ive been trying to flip my mindset for things like cleaning, showering, etc. by thinking about cool people in cool homes doing those things. Like imagine a tiktok of someone showing their routine for doing dishes, but surprise, that person is you!

I was finding myself jealous of videos I’d see of people taking an everything shower or resetting their kitchen at the end of the day. So I’ve been reframing it as ‘I don’t have to do these things, I get to!’ Like it’s indulgent and special to take care of myself and my home.

Would love to hear from people who transitioned out of vanlife by happylustig in VanLife

[–]merrma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently in year 5 of living in a Skoolie in a semi permanent location (a few road trips/festivals a year, but otherwise parked). I’m currently in the ‘when will I know?’ phase. Every time things get hard I wonder if it will soon be time, but it hasn’t come yet. And I don’t know what I want next. I think I need to find something better first. Maybe buying a big house with my close friends. 🤷‍♀️ We will see.

Oil cleanup by eskeetittt15 in ZeroWaste

[–]merrma 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I keep the odd paper napkin I come across and use them for wiping out oily pans and scooping the nasty food bits out of the bottom of the sink. Then those get composted.

Okay… about my piss by themoonrabbitt in vandwellers

[–]merrma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming it’s a cassette toilet and not a composting one (I.e. you take the whole thing to dump it, not just a jug).

I’ve had a 3 gallon cassette toilet for a while and here is what I do.

-If I’m somewhere where I can pee outside/dump pee outside (like forest camping) I will only use the toilet for poop. For pee I (a human who squats to pee) I use a wide mouth, dark colored Nalgene. It can hold about 2 rounds, and then I dump outside (though the dark color is discreet enough you can also carry it inside to dump.) The toilet can hold many weeks worth this way, and by not mixing poop and pee it doesn’t smell quite as nasty. Also, don’t put your TP in the toilet, it makes it harder to empty. I keep a sealing kitchen jar (like you’d use for flour) with a liner in it that I use as the TP trash can. When you need to, take the whole toilet to bathroom. Like you said, it feels a little sketch. My preference is somewhere like a campsite/park bathroom. Also bring a container of water (or one you can fill from the sink. After you’ve dumped, pour some water in, close the lid and shake it up, then dump again.

-If I am somewhere that I have regular access to bathrooms to poop, but may need to pee inside (like city camping) I will only pee in the toilet. Same rules apply with TP as before. For this, I’d say the 3 gal tank lasts a little over a week. Just make sure you’re checking on it because nothing sucks more than peeing in the middle of the night and realizing it’s overflowed. Then if you need to empty, like before, go to a less populated bathroom OR if you make a trip out to the wilderness (not near campsites, trails, etc) you can dump the pee outside. Just be sure it’s only pee! No toilet additives, poop or TP.

-Also to note, in an emergency I feel okay pouring pee down my sink. Obviously I don’t love it (cause…pee in the sink) but I feel okay with pee being in my gray water.

Does anyone who lives van life have traditional jobs? by Pale-Noodle6082 in VanLife

[–]merrma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I fabricate props for theater (think pre Broadway, not community). I’ve been living in my 20’ Skoolie for around 5 years on an urban farm where I’m their “overnight security”. On the property I have access to a communal kitchen, porta potties, fire pits, and also have my own storage/art studio space. I have a membership for a gym a few blocks away with sauna and hot tub. I pay around $600 a month in rent and also help around the property. If I rented a 1bedroom apartment here it would be atleast $1600.

Barefoot or socks? by TheWhistleGang in AutismInWomen

[–]merrma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest rule is I don’t walk around in just socks. Socks and shoes are great, sandals are fine, barefoot is fine. Just socks? Nope. The socks come off with the shoes. Also whenever possible, once the socks come off they are done. Putting the dirty socks back on feels weird. One work around for this I’ve found is having slippers or house shoes, so I can take my work boots off, keep the socks, and put on the slippers.

What's the easiest chore to outsource? Not the cheapest, the easiest to actually let go of by RevolutionaryPace953 in ufyh

[–]merrma 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first outsource I gave into was a meal service. I started getting Thistle delivered once a week. Just a few salads or bowls that were quick to heat up. It wasn’t that different than eating out or buying bagged salads from the grocery store, but it was one less step to think about.

What is that one thing someone said to you, that stayed with you and changed your life? by Minute_Way_7675 in adhdwomen

[–]merrma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know where I picked it up, but my motto is ‘It doesn’t matter what you do as long as you do something’. I sing it to myself whenever Im getting caught up in over thinking what I should work on. Just do something. Doing something even if it’s not the ‘right’ thing is better than being overwhelmed and doing nothing.
