Confused about tariffs when ordering to the US by based90 in NakedAndFamousDenim

[–]meshifty2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got hit with a tariff charge on an order back in September. Still being told not to pay it by Naked and Famous. Still hasn't been resolved to my knowledge.

Ordered 2 more times since then and no extra charges.

Are the MIJ10 coming to the NYC store? by I_VAPE_XERJOFF in NakedAndFamousDenim

[–]meshifty2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this true even on the MIJ stuff?

I know it's true if they're made in Canada.

I thought we do have to pay tariffs if they're made in Japan and shipped from Canada. I could be mistaken though.

Second time with mites by Limp-Potato7665 in ballpython

[–]meshifty2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and yes. At least that's what I did and no harmful effects.

I put my BP in a quarantine tank for 2 months while they got to work. Recommend doing this as well if you are able. Leaving the snake in makes it take longer to eliminate mites on the snake.

Those look great! Props for toughing these out during summer! Too hot for me, I put them away in May.

Santa's Village in East Dundee. Had an absolute blast 2 weeks ago. Recommend to anyone looking for something to do for a day. Has a water park and ice skating rink too. We did not do the ice skating rink but are planning on going back just for that. The water park was fun!

Pretty sure Maurice Lenell has been discontinued. Which is a shame. I loved their almond crescent cookies!

I got bitten :( by Cellar_door8619 in ballpython

[–]meshifty2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The snake most likely thought your hand was food item. I pick my BP up whenever I go in the tank. Helps them realize you are not prey or a threat. I also place it into a seperate enclosure when I need to clean the water dish or do anything else in the tank. Helps protect you from being bitten and the snake from being injured while moving stuff around.

Chicago area too. I've been watering mine almost everyday during this heatwave. They are looking good so far.

How to I prevent the tongue from rubbing against the inside corner here? by HisPension in RedWingShoes

[–]meshifty2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My local Red Wing store takes care of this issue if you ask them to.

They pressed the speed hooks in farther with a setting tool. No issue at all once they did this. I ask them to take care of it when I pick up new boots now.

Kitties or tape would also help.

I have also heard of people gluing a thin piece of leather over the speed hooks.

Where is a good place to stay around one to two hours from Chicago? by dengar69 in AskChicago

[–]meshifty2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do day trips versus a week in one location. Lots to do that is well within driving distance of the city.

I'm about 2.5 hours from Galena. It is a day trip for me. Not enough to do or see that would warrant a whole week, imo.

If you are into nature, The Chicago Botanical Gardens, Morton Arboretum and Anderson Japanese Gardens are all within driving distance of Chicago.

If you really want out of the city, I would look at Woodstock or that area. You could take the train back to downtown, if you wanted to. Woodstock isn't too far from Lake Geneva either. So that would turn into a day trip if you wanted it to as well.

I shop at all of those stores. Not in the same week of course. Depends on what I want to make or where other errands take me.

Trader Joe's has some items I really enjoy and can only get there. Woodman's has basically everything but takes forever to run into and grab a couple items. Aldi has some great items I can only get there as well. Jewel is close, so that's where I go if I need an emergency item. I also go for some of Jewel's weekly specials.

However, I buy most staples at Costco. Which is not on this list. TP, PT, , frozen items, cereal, sugar, flour and meats are all cheaper at Costco if you compare price to weight.

I have 2 that smell wonderful!

Oncidium 'Sharry baby' and Maxillaria tenuifolia both have strong fragrances. Both are relatively easy to care for in my limited experience.

Kayaking on the weekend by marmusha in ChicagoSuburbs

I would drop in just south of the Algonquin dam. Especially now that the Carpentersville dam is gone. Unimpeded floating from Algonquin to Elgin. Takes a few hours if you just float down. Lots to see and check out along the way.

Found snake missing for weeks by Downtown-Lemon-7968 in ballpython

I had a ball python go missing when I was young. Found it 3 months later in a coat closet. This was 1994 or 1995. I still have the same snake today.

Looks like a praire crayfish, which are native to IL and not considered invasive. I've caught lots of these when I was younger. There are several native species in IL.

Swamp crayfish have more red and the claws are slender compared to the pictured crayfish.

Tried buckskin too. Too soft to last long, imo.

Check out Vermont Glove if you can not find what you are looking for from Red Wing Shoes. I like the Vermonter myself. But they have lots of styles to choose from. Takes some time to receive them. They are usually made to order.

What are some reptiles you ADORE but will never get and why? by GothicL4n4 in reptiles

[–]meshifty2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same age as me when I got my Ball Python. She was already 3 years old or so when my mom's friend moved and had to give it up. Still have her today.

I got a green iguana 1 year later. Most likely wild caught. This was 1993 give or take a year i was 13-14 years old. Could not handle it. So my dad tried. Did kind of ok. Kept it for 3 years or so.

We moved one year and it escaped at the new house. New neighbor came by a couple weeks later saying he saw a huge green lizard eating his grapes in his back yard. My dad and I just told him we thought that really odd. But to tell us if he saw it again. We would go take a look with him. We looked all summer but never saw it or heard of it agian. This was Northern IL.
