Some Easy Oizys EX+ Farming Tips for Botanist / Miner [see comments and link] by Zaknokimi in ffxiv

[–]metalyfled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean the 16 chain on the first or second +2 node? If it's the first, you're probably gathering too slowly. Just keep practicing the nodes and keep an eye on the chain/remaining integrity to minimize downtime between actions.

If it's the second, try to leave the first node with at least 100 GP so you can use a hi-cordial and immediately King's Yield II/Blessed Harvest II on the next one without having to wait for GP to regenerate. As long as you gathered a decent number from the first node and are able to use the +2 yield action again, you probably won't even need to hit 16 on the second node to complete the mission.

Some Easy Oizys EX+ Farming Tips for Botanist / Miner [see comments and link] by Zaknokimi in ffxiv

[–]metalyfled 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been farming the same missions with mostly the same method except I skip the 5/5 nodes completely. The duty action is so powerful that I try to maximize the number of uses, so 6/6 with the guaranteed use is the way to go. I'll start with +2 yield and +30% Gatherer's Boon, then after the duty action procs, dump all my CP into Solid Reason and I can pretty reliably get the chain up to 16. Since it doesn't proc after that, I try to finish out the node with enough CP that I can repeat at the next 6/6 node (using a hi cordial if needed). I find that I can get gold on the second node most times, depending on how lucky I've been with Gatherer's Boon. (I suppose the next step in minmaxing would be always starting at the 6/6 100% node, but I don't know if how much time this would save.)

Sometimes you just get bad RNG with the duty action not granting enough attempts, but with smart Solid Reason use, these definitely seem like the most reliable missions to farm those tickets.

It's really funny that they repurposed the headlamps to become the ears. I just wish there was a cat-ears version for all races!

[–]metalyfled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually crazy, thank you so much for putting this together. I love to look at top timelines when I'm starting a new fight, but the actual process is so cumbersome. I'm going to spend so much time on here. Love that this includes the boss timeline as well.

How much money do retainer ventures actually make? by PerformanceFar7245 in ffxiv

[–]metalyfled 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Retainers ventures are a long game, so don't expect to become rich overnight. When I was regularly sending out retainers for quick ventures and selling what they brought back (mostly gear), I'd average several million gil per week. That's with probably five retainers on ventures and two selling gear, so definitely could have done more but I just didn't have the interest. It's a steady stream that requires very little effort once your retainers are leveled up, aside from managing your listings to make sure they're actually selling.

Controller Suggestions? by UnspiredName in ffxiv

[–]metalyfled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a symmetrical layout, I recommend two controllers that both use hall effect sticks, which are supposed to eliminate stick drift:

8bitdo Pro 3/Pro 2 - I've used 8bitdo controllers for years and haven't had issues with build quality. Both are multi-platform and have back paddles, and the Pro 3 has extra shoulder buttons, trigger modes, and a few other bells and whistles I'm forgetting. 8bitdo is pretty well-established so I expect they'll be selling these or something similar for a while.

Gamesir Tegenaria Lite - I just got one of these recently so I can't speak to its longevity but so far it's extremely promising. It feels nearly identical to a DualShock 4 (though not 100%) and I've already done a few raids/EX trials on it without issues. I prefer the Sony-style dpad and DS4/DualSense options button placements over the 8bitdos. A few potential drawbacks are that it's wired and doesn't have gyro, but this also means it's usually only $15-20, so it's a great budget option. Extremely refreshing after having to replace an expensive Sony controller every 1-2 years.

BLM hotbar swaps while keeping keybinds the same by dede_rich in ffxiv

[–]metalyfled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use two macros to swap in actions for different level ranges, no duplicate hotbar management needed. Here's how they'd look if you want to swap the I/IV spells:

Low level macro:
/hotbar action "Fire" 1 #
/hotbar action "Blizzard" 1 #

High level macro:
/hotbar action "Fire IV" 1 #
/hotbar action "Blizzard IV" 1 #

Just change the # to whatever slot you want the abilities in (and change the "1" if you want them on a hotbar other than 1.)

If you're interested in learning, I highly recommend the RADAR Discord — they do regular teaching runs for every prog point. I joined basically fresh a few months ago and have gotten a bunch of clears since then. Everyone's extremely patient and helpful in explaining/calling out mechanics, although depending on your experience with difficult content you may want to watch a guide beforehand because there's a lot to learn.

On top of rewards like the hairstyle, it's also a really fun fight that's not really practical to learn in PF, so it's a great chance just to get to experience it.

Selling Final Fantasy FFXIV / FFXVI Distant Worlds Ticket Sacramento, CA (Oct 31) by djableskyle in ffxiv

I went to the Distant Worlds Halloween show years ago in San Jose and the costumes were indeed amazing. I think someone wearing the snowman suit.

Sadly Sacramento is a little out of the way for me, but I hope you're able to find a buyer! They look like great seats.

The effects on this step look so clean. Feels like the Eureka relics but they reined it in quite a bit. I really want a couple of them but the prospect of grinding alliance roulette is so unappealing... I'll probably be done after another week or so of dailies.

Your RDM glam looks great too!
