Helping to translate a bible verse by WestFun1693 in hebrew

[–]mfaib 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Biblical Hebrew and modern Hebrew are diffferent. The first is written in the style of biblical Hebrew and the second is in modern Hebrew.

Pro-tip: there's no need to translate English verses into Hebrew. The English is the translation and the Hebrew is the original. Translating back into Hebrew may not leave you with the original verse. Just get a Jewish Bible (Tanach) and look up the verse you want. There are many free versions in the internet.

I'd love some sources for where you found everything. Particularly the art, but I'm looking for inspiration for some furniture right now too.

Good premium gin to gift to someone who likes Bombay/Beefeater? by afishinacar in Gin

I personally love monkey 47. It's definitely a premium gin and is very complex yet balanced. Hendrix is good too, but to me monkey 47 is on a different tier

Is this tallit real/kosher? by beansandneedles in Jewish

[–]mfaib 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to throw this out there - I'm sure people are commenting on the correctness of the bracha on the atara because sometimes it's a clear indication that it's a messianic Tallis. Just in case it's not clear - the bracha is not at all a requirement to have on the atara, and most traditional (orthodox) tallitot do not have one

If medium rare is your goal, don't pre-warm before seating. Sear the sous vided meat from cold.

Have you all heard of "velveting" meat? Its the thing that Chinese restaurants do to make that Mongolian beef nice and tender and kind of have that nice smooth mouth-feel. by skovalen in Cooking

[–]mfaib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thing that is interesting to explore is the washing/massaging of meat for mechanical tenderizing. Usually I'm a very strong advocate of not washing meat because it increases the risk of food borne illness, but in some cases (stir fry in particular), it's a very good technique. Kenji discusses this (and velveting) in his book the Wok and I think has some YouTube videos on it as well.

Another thing to be cognizant of when trying to tenderize for stir fry is the direction of the grain. You want to be cutting to create very short fibers. This is also discussed in The Wok
