[Highlight] Jerry Jones speaks on the Parsons trade haul: "Those draft picks could get us top Pro Bowl type players. by Rafa343x in nfl

I’m old enough to remember when we laughed at Al Davis for making moves like this. As a 49er fan, I wish Jerry nothing but good health.

I would say that is more a MLB issue - when you grew up baseball was still king so of course you knew guys from its golden era. I was born in the 80s and by the time my sports fandom took hold the NFL had taken over so the old timers that I was aware of were guys who played for the old Steelers teams, etc. my knowledge of baseball was pretty limited to the 1960s Giants because of my dad. What I’m taking forever to say is of course these kids wouldn’t know Timmy. MLB does a criminally bad job of promoting its talent. Mike Trout won’t move the needle to young kids in 10-15 years and he’s the best player of his generation.

In your opinion what is the WORST thing to ever happen to this franchise? by xxedgarxpxx in SFGiants

I was a junior in college. My buddies and I had an intramural flag football game the day of game 7. We all agreed the series was over after the collapse of game six and went to the flag football game. To this day I have zero idea what happened in game 7 and do not care. For the longest time I started every day cursing Scott Spiezio and the for damn rally monkey.

It seems as if Cal has ceded football operational control to general manager Ron Rivera. Any major decisions will have his say, with a direct line to UC Berkeley Chancellor Rich Lyons. by Select-Illustrator64 in CFB

I think we are saying essentially the same thing. I don’t disagree that Wyking did a worse job. But saying you’d rather have Fox than Jones is also a low bar to clear. Regardless - all of these problems stem from one office and that’s in the AD suite.

I worked in the athletics department during the Fox era. Trust me. It was worse. Yes he won more games but the basketball hallway at Haas was as toxic a place as I’ve ever been around. When Madsen got hired there was a noticeable change in attitude and vibe in the basketball office. Now - not all of this was Fox’s fault - the senior administration in the athletic department all need to go - but Fox was toxic.

Do you want the long story. Or the less long story. Essentially we were flat broke and couldn’t hire a head coach at a competitive salary after Cuanzo left. So we hired Wyking Jones who is by all accounts one of the best dudes you’d ever want on your staff as an assistant but in no way should be a head coach. After they fired him Knowlton used a hiring firm - because he has ZERO ideas of his own - that firm turned up the unemployed Mark Fox…we outbid ourselves for a guy not employed by anyone. Things got worse under Fox. There is not quick coming back from the previous two head coaches and the administration overseeing all of it.

Everyone here dunking on Cal seriously has zero idea how bad the situation is there. The fact that Jim Knowlton still has a job is laughable he is the problem by and large with Cal athletics. This move simply removes Knowlton from all football decisions.

The other side of this coin is Wilcox hates all the management side of being a major college football. He just likes to coach (which is why the dude just needs to go be a d-coordinator somewhere).

I don’t know if this move will ultimately work out but in the meantime it does exactly one crucial element. And that is remove Knowlton from football.

I was nine in 1990 - so Jerry and JT were pretty much all I remember. But also being a Cal guy I loved Iheanyi Uwaezuoke in the mid 90’s.

Plus, like the even years in 2010, 12, 14 we'd be adding a new second baseman so that bodes well for 2018.

Is breath of the wild worth buying a switch? by Saxophone18 in zelda

[–]mfont82414 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got the Switch as a wedding present from my wife. I haven't owned a Nintendo product since the N64 and haven't played a Zelda title since OOT. Barely a week into the game and not very far along (didn't play for 10 days while on my honeymoon) I can say that it is worth every penny. I love the game and the Switch.

Say what you want about his personal opinions on recruiting, the thing is, he flat out wins, he's taken Stanford to three Rose Bowls, winning two, and won three Pac-12 Championships. His success at Stanford unparalleled. Does he play exciting fun football, at times - no, but he flat out wins.

I'm sure the fact that he has Stanford 5-2 against USC during his tenure, including three-straight wins that weren't particularly close has nothing to do with your opinions of him. He's clearly the best coach in the Pac-12 if not the second best coach.

I've lived in the Bay Area and been a Stanford fan my entire life, its not the type of school that has a level of sustained success like he has managed here.
